Just to clarify, because I think people might misunderstand - the "interactive" feature is not free - it requires the premium plan, which comes free *for three months*. But you *can* also use the system for free (without a plan at all): that will only give you push notifications on the app, and a siren from the homebase when break-ins are detected, and a 7 day timeline review. No text messages, no cloud storage, etc, and no to lots of other features.

If you want to go the no subscription route ( I did with Abode security system, which is similar to this). I recommend using a separate system for security cameras - there's little reason to have the security system and camera system linked. And there are great no-subscription camera option,s such as Reolink cameras and NVRs.

I do self monitoring through alerts. I had ring monitoring but had a false alarm from cat and police showed up. They start billing you in my area for false alarms (rightfully so). If anything is gonna spook a theif, it's the alarm, not police showing up 15 mins later.

This is an amazing deal. The included *3 months * of interactive monitoring is worth $99 by itself. I just need some new sensors, might just grab this. The camera and keypad are worth $99 alone also. Killer deal!

I've got the same package in the previous generation. Except for the camera which I'm not sure I'd even set up, any big improvements Gen 2 to Gen 3 that would justify an upgrade?

They vary in price for what you want. Yo can use the system without it but it's limited and not monitored.

Ring Pro plan is $200 per year, so Ring is slightly cheaper vs. SimpliSafe $18/month plan.

I believe the early adopters of Ring still pay $100 per year, but that will change next year if not sooner.
