Note: You'll find complaints here about reliability or speed, but this varies by region. Many people have no problems. That's part of the reason they let you try it out cheaply. People also have different needs, so someone with typical bandwidth usage may be fine, and someone with demanding needs may or may not.

Of course this method isn't for everyone, not as easy as before, and does take a few minutes to setup. $25 Internet for life (or until a better deal comes along), that here typically tests at 250 Mbps down, 80 up, with ping under 10ms and jitter under 1.5ms. After a few rough weeks in the beginning is now 100% stable and reliable after 6 months, so I'll take the slight bit of extra work to remotely connect as desired. Heck, it wasn't even available in my area when I signed up and had to use a different address to get in on the deal, so results are outstanding.

The vast majority of customers on T-Mobile-branded, Sprint-branded, Metro by T-Mobile-branded, and Assurance Wireless-branded plans receive higher priority than the small fraction of customers who are Heavy Data Users on their rate plan, who are prioritized last on the network after exceeding the relevant threshold for the current billing cycle. TMHI is lowest priority starting at 0gb.
However though it is is lowest priority, it isn't otherwise throttled when you reach some artificial download limit. I think my plan has it explicitly stated there is no throttling based on amount downloaded.
You are throttled when your neighbors on higher priority are data hogs. If you live in a senior community next to a tower, you will essentially have unthrottled access to the full bandwidth.
If you are in a heavy traffic area, expect to get throttled when everyone else is using data.
In my usage I usually get 350/40. The variance is more like 150-500/30-40 but usually I am at 350/40.
For me the throttling isn't an issue as 350/40 most of the time is fine for me. What was a minor annoyance was the CGNAT that TMHI uses which prevents port forwarding unless you go through some hoops. In the end I went through the hoops and have a more robust network design where I can switch to any carrier and it will still work regardless of whether they use CGNAT.
The decision on TMHI is very simple. Variance in performance is high from usable to not, but will usually be consistent for a particular location. So you try it, see if it works for you, if not, move on. They give you a $50 gift card so it costs you nothing other than time. For the holidays on the $25 for life offer, they actually paid you $50 to try it out ($100 gift card - 2mo service) So my general advice to folks (not necessarily you, I just happen to be responding to your post) is just try it rather than getting stuck in paralysis by analysis.
I have worked from home regularly for years - I canceled my home internet and just worked from my cell phone's hot spot and it worked even for video conferences until responses to Covid sent many more to work from home. My speed slowed to a crawl as I wasn't the only one using the nearby cell tower during the day anymore. Back to cable internet... I wondered if the same would be true with the T-Mobile home internet, and it sounds like that's the case.
