There is an epic glut of flash memory, also known as NAND, that won't correct for many more months. NAND is a commodity, where there isn't much you can do to distinguish your NAND from anyone else's, among the big producers. If you won't cut your prices, that means customers flock to competitors and you get $0 for your ever-increasing pile of unsold NAND. If you try to produce less NAND, that hurts you because you make a lot less money while your rivals keep making and producing NAND. If we have a recession in the back half of the year like some are predicting, then that will drive prices even lower. https://www.techspot.com/news/974...first.html

I wouldn't buy this drive unless I needed it ASAP. I might buy once it falls below $100.

Yup! Plus these manufacturers are colliding with the reality that file size/media has adjusted everyone's thinking of what is a lot of storage.

Just 2 years ago, it was "wow, 512gb is NICE!"

2023? "What a megabyte?

1 Terrabyte is fast becoming the new 256Gb of years ago, if not already.

Current pricing would make sense when multiple by at least 2.

Ie, 4TB must fall below 200, and not just $199.. more like $159

Wow if I didn't have all my sata cables occupied I would grab these. Maybe I will to replace one of my lower capacity drives. Even though I don't need it.

I think this is one of the best prices we've seen for a 2 TB SSD. But you're right, one should really look for a M.2 drive, given that they're really superior in every way. When you look at benchmarks, the difference between these SATA drives and the PCIe/M.2 drives is pretty small outside of some specific use cases.

Grabbed one yesteday to go into my gaming rig as another game drive only storage as Im running out of room on my other SSD's in that rig ( Nvme and sata ssd's . One drive is already the 1tb version of this drive in the rig and has been excellant , no problems thus far for about 18 months . Used with Nvme 4x4 drives, one for the os and other games drives these sata drives are hard to detect the differance for everyday usage .
I also use a ton of these MX drives in every older laptop that I service for my friends and clients , making those units come to life and no problems with any of those drives as well .
Waiting on the 4TB to drop .........

If you have space for m.2 then yah, it makes no sense to go the SATA route. However, these are still useful and serve a purpose as storage devices. My motherboard can support only 2 nvme drives only, which are already populated. I use them for boot and games and any other apps that require faster read/write. For basic file storage/backup (I use it for backing up pictures, media, documents etc) they are perfectly fine. Personally would like to see 4TB drives getting cheaper.
