Trying to get back into the world of building a PC since my son needs a new one. Comparing the pre-built to a custom, I came up with the following items... Seems it's really all about the CPU and GPU at this point, everything else is just kicking an idea around for misc items.
Just looking to see if this makes sense for a $1k build. Thanks in advance for any help/comments.
HDD Silicon Power 1TB UD90 NVMe 4.0 Gen4 PCIe M.2 SSD R/W up to 5,000/4,800 MB/s (SP01KGBP44UD9005) [amazon.com] $62
CPU Intel Core i5-13600K Raptor Lake 3.5GHz Fourteen-Core LGA 1700 Boxed Processor - Heatsink Not Included [microcenter.com] $250
MB ASUS B660M-A Prime WiFi D4 Intel LGA 1700 microATX Motherboard [microcenter.com] $140

CASE G.Skill LT1 Tempered Glass microATX Mid-Tower Computer Case - Black [microcenter.com] $68
PSU Thermaltake Toughpower GX2 80+ Gold 600W SLI/Crossfire Ready Continuous Power ATX 12V V2.4/EPS V2.92 Non Modular Power Supply 5 Year Warranty PS-TPD-0600NNFAGU-2 [amazon.com] $60

Heatsink Zalman CNPS9500 AT Silent CPU Cooler [microcenter.com] $40
If this doesn't belong here, i'm more than happy to move it as well.... TIA

In my experience, unless you are looking to build a gaming desktop at the cutting edge, there is no value in building your own, esp. once you factor in OS costs and the time and effort involved\no system warranty. You are usually far better off just buying a good pre-built one with the options you want and adding in\swapping out a better GPU and power supply if need be. You are likely simply not going to be able to beat something decent from the Dell Outlet for ex. imo.
My2 cents..

Yeah… I've been seeing that more and more lately.y main concern with the prebuilt sis overheating. But nothing a few extra fans won't fix.

Not sure if you have a way to get Windows for free it is not that hard nowadays.
Check out the dell outlet https://outlet.us.dell.
Processor is a good deal!
if you want to compare with a prebuilt system
another good site to use is logicalincrements. they have a nice tier system.
i'd also recommend and get 32gb of RAM. down the line if you want to upgrade to 32gb it can be a pain to pair.
As long as you don't get your hopes up too much it may be worth a look to see if a Walmart near you has one. Here's the stock locator link for it. It will show price but NOT whether it is available at those stores.
