Don't believe the $554 price tag. Regular price for this set is $180. These are excellent for a budget setup.

Not directly. These are passive speakers that need a 5 channel amp to power them. You could connect your mac mini to the amp and control them that way, but again, you'd have to find an amp to buy.

It seems with the supply shortages amps are hard to find, nevermind trying to find any deals.

Anyone know if these would be an upgrade from a pioneer Andrew Jones 1st generation speakers set?

Recommend this to anyone looking to start their home theater setup. Amazing bang for buck. Bought these about 3 years ago and added a good woofer, havent seen the need to upgrade. Im not an audiophile but these have served me well for movie nights and sporting gatherings. You wont find a better deal!

No, those pioneers will stand for 1000 years. yummy

Especially when people were getting them for $50 a pair. insanity.

The only thing that comes close are those elac bs41 that went for $70 recently. but even then they don't have the curved cabinet of the Legendary King Slick Pioneer BS22.

I got the edifier r1280db deal from gamestop for $94 after tax, is this worth returning it and getting this?

My setup is just a desk setup, at most maybe 6 feet away from the speakers, and not a large room. I am moving soon, so things will change, and will hopefully have a bigger space, but I will still use this only for a desk setup, just with more room.

I have seen some good prices cut at monoprice, I got one from Klipsch with discount at adorama but believe it or not those having great boom for 140$ is a steal, combined a decent receiver and you start printing party invitations

These speakers will require an amplifier. The speaks you purchased are active/powered and do not require an external amp. If you have room and budget for an amp, these speakers will provide greater flexibility in tuning the sound and better performance, but for a computer setup it would be atypical.

thanks, I figured, I probably won't have much space or it will be too cluttered for a desk monitor setup.

i like my dell s2721dgf like at most 1 to 1 1/2 feet away from me, so the edifiers will be better for me.

You don't need a new amp to do that there are TONS of deals at goodwill, you can find pre-HDMI surround HTR/AVRs for a few dollars, older non-4k HDMI ones for $20-30, Yamaha, Denons, whatever... Or just search craigslist or Facebook marketplace. They'll all have S/Pdif (optical and coax) inputs.

No. Keep your pair. This Jamo set requires a 5.1 receiver. That's at least another $200.

This set is for a living room home theater setup.

Could you get this Jamo set and hack in an amplifier board and make yourself two pairs of powered speakers and sell the center? Sure. But, why?
