I've only changed one once so I don't know from experience, but that seems like the kind of thing to me where I'd be nervous that an impact with some juice would just snap off the head. Is that not the case? Can you just point a heavy duty 1/2" impact wrench at it and go for broke?

Try heat, and/or lubricant. If you have time, you can let the lube seep in, makes it much easier to break free.
