13700K is $359 at Microcenter, if one is near you, probably better to get that than a 12900K. Same number of cores but clocked higher and has a better memory controller.
Tdp down is not idle power use but an alternate low power configuration for configurations where the heat dispersal is limited. TDP describes heatsink requirements not power use. All modern CPUs will clock lower during low utilization.
Amazon[amazon.com] has Intel Core i7-12700K Desktop Processor 12 (8P+4E) Cores up to 5.0 GHz Unlocked LGA1700 600 Series Chipset 125W for $254.14. Shipping is Free

This is a guzzler. Your electric bill will be $10 per month or $120 per year just idling:
Typical TDP: 241 W, TDP Down: 125 W.

I got the 12700k/Asus TUF z690 combo at Micro Center back in December ($300) and it's been great. I reused my DDR3200 from a previous 7700k build and bought an EVGA 3070 b-stock for $375. Plays everything really well and isn't excessively hot (air cooled with a Noctua D15). All in, $800 for a huge upgrade and I haven't seen any spikes in my power bill. Plus I sold my 1080 for $200 making it cheaper.
I would have preferred a 13600k for the efficiency bump, but that wasn't the deal so I'll look at the 15600k and DDR5 in the future.
