For the price it is pretty good if you can live with the things left off this model.

Wifi, Strava segments, Power meter, workouts.
Use yours less. Useless reply. The battery of your phone as a GPS will last a lot less than this will for a full day of riding, and if you need assistance you'd be bummed you can't make a call since you used it up. Also, your phone won't give you routes based on a mileage of a ride, which this will. It's a nice feature if your away from home/on vacation and want to get a ride in and don't know where to go. You punch in a mileage and it will give you a loop with a few options in terms of difficulty/traffic.

Oh and in the rare case you have a crash, would you rather wreck your phone worth hundreds of dollars or your $85 gps?

Don't knock it until you've tried it.

I guess social media made it cool to post useless replies...

Thanks. Was going to buy this as a gift. Would rather get something more recent that will be supported for longer; not sure of Garmin's track record for software updates. Possible this is at EOL but I'm speculating and haven't confirmed.

Can this just be used as regular GPS if you are out camping or something? that is no bike involved?

Cheapest price ever (previous was $99) but from reading reviews, looks like battery only last 2 to 3 hours, so keep that in mind.

Bought a refurb Edge 530 last year and it looked brand new - maybe this will also be new as well?

actually phone battery life with gps on is really good. I use a backup phone as a gps logger and it easily lasts more than 12 hours. You can also attach those battery packs to iphones for even more battery life.

There is no reason you have to carry a single phone. Use an old phone on the bike and carry your main phone. The phone even comes with a built in flash light, better screen, and faster processor.

The big issue with using a phone is lack of good software designed for riding. Strava is pretty good but not as much cycling data for the data hungry people. There are other decent apps.

that's awful battery life for a dedicated device.

Is this a step up from the Edge 800?
