I have three Ecobee's - one each of the Ecobee 3, Ecobee 4, and Ecobee Lite (aka 3 Lite) - controlling three zones in my house. They all have similar interfaces and work fairly similarly with small differences, the oldest Ecobee 3 being 6+ years old and still working well.
The Woot descriptions and titles seem like they were written by completely different people at different times, so just some basic compare/contrast on these three:
-ALL have a pretty similar interface, and look even more similar in the Ecobee app. The newest 2022 models (not in this deal) have a completely redesigned interface that Ecobee says will be backported to all the older devices, but we shall see...
-ALL can be integrated with and controlled by Alexa/Echo devices in your home pretty much the same.
-The Ecobee 4 (and 5) have built-in Alexa, meaning they have a microphone and speaker and will function like an Echo device (answer questions, play music). The built-in Alexa in the 4 has more limited features compared to Echo devices, than the 5. Personally I already have four Echo devices and don't need Alexa where the thermostat is, so I have the Alexa turned off on it.
-ALL can use any of the additional Room Sensors or newer Smart Sensors for room temperature averaging and occupancy, though none in this deal come with any. (Room averaging is NOT zoning, that's why I have three Ecobee's for true zoning - but each of my Ecobee's has one to three Room Sensors to average out multiple rooms in its zone.)
-The Ecobee 3 LIte is the only one that does not have a built-in occupancy sensor, therefore if you would need at least one Room Sensor if you want to use the occupancy-based features.
-The Ecobee 3 LIte is the only one that doesn't have additional pins for controlling auxiliary HVAC equipment like humidifiers.
TL;DR - Ecobee 3 LIte removes occupancy sensor/aux equipment, Ecobee 4 adds built-in voice (Alexa), so for the almost same renewed pricing here, Ecobee 4 > Eocbee 3 > Ecobee 3 Lite.
(I don't have the 5, but the additional $40 gets you a glass screen, dual-band wifi, and more complete built-in Alexa.)
