About the film:
Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. ASSASSIN'S CREED stars Academy Award (R) nominee Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past, 12 Years a Slave) and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, La Vie en Rose).

I'm a big fan of Assassin's Creed (games). I've been playing them for years, and I think they're one of the better game franchises out there.
This movie. . . was a mess. They took a few bits and pieces from the game, but they didn't turn it into anything resembling a cohesive story. The end result was a convoluted and confusing plot with cool special effects, bland characters, and. . . well, a movie that just wasn't much fun.
What's funny about this movie is that the main actors (Fassbender and Cotillard) and director (Kurzel) are all, like, A+ artists - individuals that have made or been a part of actual masterpiece/Oscar level films. That exact team also made the incredible (and IMO masterpiece) version of MACBETH. I would bet a director's cut of this would be incredible, or at least super interesting. As is, it is my understanding there was a lot of studio interference that really compromised it. I have not seen it, but at this price (and as a fan of those involved) I'll dip in.

I saw this movie in theaters. I knew it was going to be bad, but I hoped it would at least be fun. I was disappointed.
