All Motorola phones are factory unlocked. However, it is sold by Tracfone thru HSN so Tracfone locks the service to Tracfone. Tracfone allows unlocking after 60 days of service. It is very easy to unlock it then online with Tracfone, as they will provide you with 2 long codes that you enter and then Tracfone releases it.

It's Moto G Power 2022, a much better phone with 64GB and 4GB, 5000mAh battery.

Potentially important detail: after 60 days of service on a given SIM (i.e. if you move to another SIM the clock seems to reset).

+1 to this question. More generally, given two Tracfone phones with activated prepaid "plans," is there a way to consolidate them into one (extending time and allotments and ideally also combining points)?
You can transfer whatever time you have left after 2 months to another line in the same account, which will extend the receiving line by the equivalent duration. Minutes, data and text are transferred too. You cannot transfer rewards points though.

How's this compared to the Metro by T-Mobile $40 Moto, outside of the unlock period difference?

Dayum, needed a new phone and just got the Samsung A23 last week on this deal for 119
Isn't A23 a better phone? What is the regret?

Do you have to call the customer service to do this? Is there any way to do it online ourselves? Tracfone CS is very bad IMO.

not sure which is better but I would have taken this deal for 50 bucks less. I do like the A23 though, nice phone.

Not only do you have to call/chat to combine two active lines, but several people have reported agents saying they can't do it (even though they can). And there is always a risk a bad agent will mess something up. There is no self-serve option to combine, like there is to activate with transfer.

A23 is light years better than any cheap Moto.

So for $50 a phone to watch movies on, play games, FaceTime, try out sketchy apks and just wipe the phone if it doesn't work out. Not bad!

Metro $40 phones (Moto G Stylus 5G or Oneplus Nord 20) are much better than this. But only 1-month service vs 1-year Tracfone. Existing Tracfone users would be willing to pay $30 or more for a 1-year plan.

If you just wanted an extra phone for some future use, how long could you leave it just laying around and not activating or doing anything with it?

I don't see any way to do it online. I had no problem doing a chat and getting remaining service transferred from one phone on my account to another.

After doing these deals for awhile, I have a shoebox full of unlocked phones, and a potload of service minutes and days on my "main" phone. Even if you can't use a HSN or QVC code, it's a good deal for casual users.

Convenient how you forgot to mention the fact that Tracfone is unlocked after 2 months as opposed to 6 months with Metro!

My bad, I didn't see the question you were replying to, sorry! Sorry

They told me there was no time limit to activate it. The longest I have delayed was 6 months. I wouldn't wait more than a year, though.

Never called once. Chat is the way to go, never had a problem.
