Just picked this up for $880 for an open box.

Good
1080p high refresh rate screen
GPU that can handle 1080p at a decent fps
Low DCP latency for real time video/audio editing
User serviceable
Decent keyboard and mousepad
Understated looks
Decent battery life 6-8 hours of video playback

Bad
Never had a HP laptop. A bit worried about this.
300 nit screen is not exceptional

This is the only sub 1k laptop that I have found in years that meets my criteria.

Be VERY WARY of common HP Omen keyboard issues after warranty expires. Often "X" and "R" keys fail intermittently and then barely work. This is a known problem.

HP refuses to address this issue, which seems to be hardware problem and no software or BIOS update fixes it.. My son has the Omen 15 from 2021 and is dealing with this but absolutely NO HELP from HP.

I had this issue with the R key on my Omen 15. They fixed it under warranty about two years ago and it hasn't been a problem since (knock on wood).

TKL keyboards are pretty popular among the gaming community. I rarely use the number pad and appreciate the extra roominess from not having to squeeze an unused number pad on to the keyboard of a relatively small laptop.
