So how does this work ? Go from the pixel usb-c out to amp usb-c in and connect the headphones the amp? Is that the basic jist of it ? If so, how does the phone know to output to usb-c instead of a headphone Jack (if you have an old phone). Or what if you had an iPhone, would the lightning to usb-c "just work" ?

Doesn't seem like iPhones worked with the older micro usb port version; can't seem to get an answer as to whether it works on the type c. But I would hold off if driving iPhone is important use for you.

I used an older FiiO amp with pixels and yes, just plug in the usb-c. Note Pixels had a problem with usb-C amps for a while recently but I believe if you have the latest system updates it should be fixed now.

Hmmmmm…… can that Line Out go to a subwoofer?! Always loved jammin out with a good set of headphones and an amp running to a sub! Gives the bass that "feel" it's missing from a tiny speaker next to your ear!

it says in the description "Compatibility Mobile Device Compatibility None" I wouldnt think a phone could give enough power to power a desktop amp, but a laptop can. Im not totally sure if a mobile phone will work with it, but you may want to inquire more

I can't personally vouch for anything other than the older E10K working with the Pixel 7 with OTG cable, but I'd think compatibility would be pretty good with most similar phones that use a usb-c to headphone dongle with a dac in them. Almost certainly this isn't as low power as those though, and it will chew battery faster but seems pretty reasonable on power to me.

On my Pixel 7 with the OTG cable and E10K with micro USB, it just automatically switches to this when you plug it in...just like using the standard usb-c to headphone dongle. I can't speak to whether the iPhone would cooperate.

Had the E10K… it's a great little amp. I loved it for some good headphone listening sessions

Can add from reliability standpoint - I own one (the original E10) for about 10 years. Powered on every single day since the purchase

I have a couple of FiiO K1s which apparently have the same DAC as these. I got them because the headphone jack on my Lenovo laptop was trash. They worked well enough until I tried the Apple USB-C to 3.5mm adapter. It's $9, much smaller than the K1, and has noticeably better SNR. If your headphones don't require a lot of power, I'd recommend checking it out.

The iPhone (like the Macs) has a good DAC in it, and a better than average amp (IIRC). This is more something that you would want for a cheap notebook, or an Android.

I was shocked how well the iPhone could drive my JH Laylas, for example. So unless you're trying to drive 600ohm heavy drivers, you should be fine.

The last iPhones to have a headphone jack were the 6ses and original SE released in 2015 and 2016.

I doubt desidude2000 is still using one of those iPhones.

Unless you have an old iPhone with a headphone jack, it's not using the internal DAC to drive the headphones while using the lightning headphone adapter. Internal DAC is only for the speakers. Happily the iPhone headphone adapter is widely regarded as having the best DAC implementation among the dongle adapters, both the lightning and usb-c versions.
