Do these still overheat like the initial razers?

The overheating on previous iterations was one of the major fixes this time around. Not a big issue anymore.

I think the 3070 model sold much better than this 3080 because the MSRP discrepancy was too large, so now Razer is moving the 3080 models to make room for the new 40 Series Blades. This price is better than even the floor model at MicroCenter . . .

I'd love a Razer blade, but the whole overheating and bloated battery things come up on their subreddit wayyyy too much. That, and the terrible customer service they provide. I don't really feel like gambling with close to $2k at the moment, but it does look very nice.

Their new 40 series are looking much better performance wise. I'd wait for their wode release, worst case scenario the 30 series models will only drop in price imo

That's an ever-going dilemma of the slickdealers. A new tech will always be an improvement over its predecessor, but slickdealers would not be buying the "new tech" for its msrp. So they wait until the next new tech comes out for a sale on the current tech, but when that happens, they feel like the new tech is too good to go for the current outgoing model.

This was my daily driver for part of last year. Truly an incredible blend of power and portability, though don't expect full 3080 performance, as it's wattage-limited. Great vibrant screen, though the max. brightness is only good, and a 16:10 ratio would have been ideal.
As for heat, I'm sensitive to a scorching chassis but this model didn't roast as much as previous Razer laptops. Plus, with Ryzen Controller and/or disabling turbo boost, you get a lot of control over thermals.

Laptop 3080 is already only 65% of the performance of a desktop 3080. Does wattage limitation mean performance is even more limited from it already only being a 65% performance of the desktop card?

I don't think anyone on Reddit is satisfied with anything in life.

A few questions for anyone who feels like sharing their knowledge/experience:
  1. This vs a 14" Macbook Pro? Looking for something easy to travel with. Weighing the pros of gaming on this versus battery life and reliability of the Macbook.
  2. Has anyone had luck with the USB4.0 update? I would need to use whatever laptop I buy with a Thunderbolt 3 dock.
  3. Does this come in silver? I could have sworn I've seen these 14" Razers in other colors but not seeing it for this one.

edit: This is not the later 6900HX version, this deal is for the 5900HX which I assume are old stock. This answers my #3 as the new version does come in silver and pink.

The more I read about this, the more I'm leaning towards the Macbook Pro. Great find though for someone who specifically wants a gaming laptop, OP.

There's a good chance this laptop is slower than a 3070ti equipped Lenovo Legion, with the Legion being cheaper as well.

Razer has the advantage in weight and thinness. The keyboards are absolute shit on Razer's, too. That's an opinion though.

Just FYI the only difference between the 5900hx and 6900hx is DDR4 vs DDR5. The CPU capabilities are nearly identical.

Good luck getting warranty service, or hell, any service from them.
