The TCL 4-Series offers a lot of bang for your buck in my opinion. It's not the fastest processor and it's not going to upscale HD content to 4K very well, but for a no frills set it has a solid picture with average light output. My son picked this up on the previous sale to put in his room as he had a 50" 4-Series and he got a solid set with some very minimal backlight bleed. I bring up the backlight bleed so you know to check before mounting it in case it's excessive enough to want to return and get a different set. All in all, though, I think it's a very good value at this price and well worth it if you're replacing an older or aging FHD set. Top of the line FALD 1080p sets might still produce a better overall picture due to backlight control, but I think it's worth looking into regardless.

I agree the 4 series really makes a good budget set or tv set for a bedroom

Wow, great deal for what you get. I think a TCL 4-series at this price is pretty hard to beat.

I have been using the 4 series 55inch as my bedroom TV for almost 7 years now. while not the best picture, its serves the purpose and roku interface is still fast. I added roku wireless speakers so i don't disturb the kids sleeping next room. bought it at costco at that time for $450

I got this for Black Friday through early Walmart+ for $188. At $250 I am strongly considering getting a second one.

I'd recommend waiting for an open box 5-series (55s555) which by all accounts is a significantly better screen. Picked one up for $269 a few weeks ago, only $20 more than this.

This TV might actually be a bit better. The Walmart Black Friday deal was model 55S41, which was an exclusive Walmart Black Friday model. The specs on the two models are exactly the same, but the BF exclusive electronic models have usually cut some corners somewhere.

I noticed my roku 43 inch 4 series from 2018 is a bit slow and laggy at power up and sometimes loading apps. Is this an updated firmware issue or something else fixable?

Ugh.... I'm stuck on the fence. I want to upgrade the TCL 55" S4610R I have in my Man Cave.... this TV is 4K vs HD and has practically the same form-factor (besides a 4th HDMI input which is handy). But for $70 more I can get the TCL 58 (58S455) on sale and get a larger screen in addition to the higher res, and that 4th HDMI port.

Current:
TCL S4610R: 55.0" Diag, 48.9W x 30.3 H (w/stand), 3x HDMI (1080p)

Available:
TCL 55S455: 54.6" Diag, 48.3 W x 29.8 H (w/stand), 4x HDMI (2160p), $250 (reg $320)
TCL 58S455: 57.5" Diag, 50.6 W x 31.5 H (w/stand), 4x HDMI (2160p), $320 (reg $340)

The location I have my current TCL can accommodate no larger than a 58" DIag TV as the built-in location maxes out at 57 W x 41" H. If I want to be able to access the space behind the TV (to monkey around with the physical connection) or be able to see the full screen from an angle, realistically I'm limited to 55 W x 35 H. So a 55 diag TV is good, a 58 diag TV is better, and a 65 is too big. So either I get the TCL 55 that's on sale for $70 off the regular $320 price, or bump up to the TCL 58 that's only $20 off the regular $340 price. My desire to max-out the slickness of this deal is driving me to the 55, but knowing that the new TV will be the same size (actually, just a fraction smaller) than my existing TV is pushing me toward the 58" - even though the deal isn't as good.

Well - I suppose I've got a few hours to wrestle with it. Lol. I'll probably just get the bigger one and not worry about the extra $70.

Best Buy - their open box inventory is always changing so it's a good idea to keep an eye on it. And most of the sets are in excellent condition, they've just been opened or in some cases were store displays.

Have you tried clearing cashe?.... Go to Home screen
Hit HOME 5 times.
UP once.
REWIND twice.
FAST FORWARD twice. (clears cache & tv reboots itself.)

TCl TV's seem to have their led backlights going bad. Mine on the 55 S405 died after ~3 years. It's can be changed but risky the first time, i cracked the screen doing it!
