I'm always watching when any of the 18tb drives go below $200. I have 12 of these in a Synology NAS. Had one fail about 3 months ago, which was within the 2-year warranty period, and a received another remanufactured drive.

X20's which is the newer generation is $10 more per drive.

I have been tempted to get one. Still on the fence though - Everyone says they take care of their customers, which is great. What makes me hesitate a little is that there seems to be more people reporting problematic drives than those who buy new ones since there are so many people who talk about "got a bad drive or within warranty period, and they replaced it" but I don't have real stats on that, of course. The price is definitely attractive, and yet the first priority of any hdd is to not have failures, and new drives seem to be winning?

Bought 7. The 12TBs seemed stable but the 14TBs worry me. They took significantly longer to complete drive testing except one. They all ended up passing my tests though. No drive failures thus far (3 or so months). Bought an extra as a cold spare though, and I have backups to a new western digital. The drives are about 80% capacity at the moment. So far, no regrets.

I bought four 18tb Exos around Black Friday. They all tested good and have been working great so far. Another perk to buying from this site is they don't charge sales tax outside of Florida. The drives are packaged well too.

Ive had about the same failure rate on new vs. remanufactured. I used to buy the best buy external enclosure drives when they went on sale, shuck the external enclosure and put them in my NAS. When they failed, I had to remove them, put them back in their enclosure, then request a warranty repair. They would then send me a refurbished external enclosure which I would have to shuck again (and keep it around for warranty). This is MUCH easier for less money, but a year less warranty

Just want to add that I bought the 12tb 2 months ago and it's working fine so far.

What's your method for stress testing your drives? I'm about to shuck ten or so drives and would like to thoroughly test beforehand.

Used hddscan butterfly, then sea tools extended SMART afterwards. I'd probably give the free copy of Hdsentinel a go.

Unfortunately, it seems this company now makes you pay sales tax. Bigger deal when you live in a 11% sales tax location.

edit: nevermind. only applies tax when you do PayPal express checkout.
