I'm not familiar with this version, but I do have the Costco FTX one.

First, it looks like this has the very thin mesh/net around the weight stacks where the Costco one does not. That's pretty cool, I almost smashed my toddlers hand once, but understand it's a thin and flimsy "net".

This one has a straight bar, Costco has a band used for assisted pull ups and weighted squats. I wouldn't worry about either one since you probably won't use either of them, but if I had to choose, straight bar would win, I guess.

If weight stacks are the same, it is adequate weight for anyone. If anything, the weight increments are too steep. The Freemotion dual cable machines in the gym are lighter than this and raise in increments of 3lbs. These are 10lbs each. If you can't get a solid workout with this much weight, you don't know what you are doing or (before the bros get all mad), these machines aren't for you since you are probably going for strength and max Squat Bench Dead, not hypertrophy sets with reps in the 12+ range.

Also, the bench on the Costco version is fantastic. It's very low to the ground, but it hangs on the machine and doesn't take up any space when not in use. I said this before in a previous thread, but it's great to have sex on the bench in a slight decline position. My wife's feet can still reach the ground as she's on top of me. I know that's an odd thing to share, but guys, this should be advertised on the box it works so well. Hopefully this version comes with a bench, if not, maybe wait, especially with the next thing I have to say.

The only way this is a deal is if you have a truck big enough to haul it home with someone to help you. It's a heavy ass box, which can be broken down, but quite a bit of crap to deal with. I wouldn't be able to pick up in store so I'd have to pay the $500 to ship which makes this more expensive than the Costco one shipped. Not much of a deal if you can't pick it up. Couple that with potentially not having a bench would make me want to wait for the Costco FTX Trainer to come back. I was at Costco a few weeks ago where it was selling for $1,100 which is exciting because I bought mine for $1,300, so fitness equipment prices might be leveling out.

These Trainers are awesome and priced very well. I can work every muscle group and make great progress using this machine. I am in the process of upgrading to a Freemotion Genesis cable machine which is set to arrive this week, but I'm keeping this one to continue using for workouts and… yeah… for the sex.

that's the Smith machine that's the upgraded model. it costs more money. just use a normal bar on a squat rack, cheaper and more effective

Unless I'm wrong, it's only 80 pounds of resistance on each pulley. Which is not enough for some movements basically from the start.

Wish it had a rack on the front of it for free weight barbell exercises.... or else I would for sure be in for one.

No Bench (can find for <$100), and you get a straight bar instead of the leg strap… that looks like the main functional (no pun intended) differences. Same weight (though it looks like the FTE used to come with more).

I'm reading the same thing and I believe, as a rule of thumb, pulley's on these type of machines reduce weight weight by about half.
  • From the specs:
  • A 2:1 weight ratio delivers 80 lbs max resistance per pulley
  • 2 x 160 lbs Weight Stacks

besides the bench, any other comparisons/detractions from the Costco model? Was waiting for the Costco model to go back on sale to buy, but for this price might just pull the trigger

I bought the Costco one and based on what I'm looking at in the image all the accessories are the same, minus the bench.

Edit: actually there appears to be some kind of.. curtain? Behind the weights on this. I can't really tell from the images. Mine doesn't have that

Also got in on the Costco one. The bench is a big add. Very substantial.
One thing to note maybe is that bench is much lower to the ground than a regular bench. Probably to facilitate greater range of motion.

Thoroughly reviewed this. This is not a full size unit or for larger individuals. At 6'-2" you'd have a limited ROM and inadequate weights utilized.
I confirmed this once I saw this setup at Costco in person.

Dicks website might not be accurate but after reading a review and watching a video off inspires website, this model may actually come with the bench and have the 210lb weight stacks. Makes sense why dicks pricing retailed at 2499 vs costcos 1499. If this is true, this is more inclined comparison to the original FT1 which is actually a much better deal

Ordered the last one in stock at my store. Guess we'll see how it is when I set it up later today.

How do you do legs with this? I find it kind of awkward for any squatting motion

I bought this from Costco with the bench for like $1200. I like it a lot. Have been using for over a year with no problem.

When I lift with it, I often smile when I remember 'My moo-sclees are growing'.

These movements work each muscle group significantly better than if you were to do a compound movement (squat). Don't get lost in the hype of NEEDING to squat.

Thank you for asking, let me know if you need help with any other muscle group. Goes for the whole SD family, I've learned so much from so many on this silly money saving ap, I'm more than happy to answer your guys' questions.
