These set off my air purifiers to jet engine mode. Apparently all ultrasonic ones put lots of particulates into the air. Our evaporative humidifier doesn't cause any issues. Sadly a return to Costco for me.

Extremely easy to clean. I used to clean them once a week, but for the last month I haven't touched it and there are no issues. I have only used filtered water from my refrigerator. I'm sure a brita or zero water pitcher would be good too.

We have this humidifier for a large master bedroom. Overall it works great and for the price I would recommend. The only issue we have is the humidity sensor strangely spikes when our HVAC turns on. It is probably 10 feet from the nearest vent and the vent is not aimed toward it, yet humidity will spike to 80% and quickly recover back to normal. Been working with the company to see if it is a defect or just a coincidence, but nothing definitive so far.

As for water, we have a distiller that can make 3ish gallons per day, so we can go a little longer between cleanings. They are pretty easy to clean, just a chore as one would expect.

I have this one. It come with two types of mist, cool or warm. I thought the warm mist is the evaporative one you mentioned. Maybe i was wrong?
Evaporative is different from steam. Evaporative uses evaporation through a fan to humidify. I have tried it and did not seem to work for me (Vornado $120 one).

This one works great on warm mode which is pretty much like throwing off steam. But it barely runs for 6 hours on high warm mode before running out of water and probably consumes a lot of power (around 250W?).

Does anyone have experience if this humidifier works fine with hard water? I live in LA and water is super hard here.

Any Wick (Cold) or Warm (boiling) humidifier will work with hard water.

Ultrasonic puts out more water then both but if you have mineral in the water it atomizes the minerals into the air. That's the dust everyone is complaining about. Only way to get rid of it is using water with minerals removed.

So either live with the dust. Or live with the Cold water wick that will eventually mold or turn nasty because it'll hold on to all the minerals. Or deal with the boiling heat of a warm humidifier.

My kids' pediatrician agrees. Said steer clear of ultrasonic humidifiers and only buy evaporative

I've tried a handful of the ultrasonic ones, and they only lasted about 1.5 years on average. I have not tried this brand so I can't comment specifically. However, I purchased 4 evaporator ones from Costco, and they seem to last about 5 -7 years. Granted, they cost a little more because of the filters, but they are more reliable.

Update. Costco has this on sale as well. $30 off $100 = $70. Vornado EVDC505

Yes I have one of the vornado evaporative I like it more than the ultrasonic because ultra causes my air purifier to get clogged up.

I have one and it works great! If you hold the auto button it'll turn off the screen so you can sleep better at night with no light

I was looking to replace our ultrasonic because it set off our air quality monitor after about 5 minutes of running. It's for a baby so I am being overly cautious. I went with a steam vaporizer instead. For whatever reason the subscribe and save was 40% off so this was $21.99 before tax. How easy are these to clean if I may ask? And do we have to use distilled water itself or will tap water do?
As others have said, hard water will cause white dust settling. I use RO water with no issues. I also add about 1-2ml of household bleach per gallon and this keeps mold and funk at bay greatly reducing the need to clean.

So this unit is harmful to use because it releases particles into the air? Was interested in it but the comments scared me away
