Anyone tried these for higher gain tones? My main amp is a Bogner 101b, so definitely not expecting it to be anywhere close, but I love cheap gear and a tube amp at this price is always appealing 😂 The videos I watched online sound pretty great, the clean channel is really nice, but there's not much on the gain channel without a boost, or with humbuckers.

If only the clean channel is decent, and that's what you're looking for I'd just buy a nice SS amp instead. No point in dealing with tubes in that case.

I used to be of the mind that more watts is better. Even for a gigging guitar player, 50w is overkill for most situations. In order to push the amp to get "that tone" you're way too loud. Better to have a 20-30w tube amp which is plenty loud (even for a full band club gig) and actually allows you to drive the tubes.tunes. That 20-30w is plenty even if you want to pull out that 4x12 bottom with green back Celestions!

That's why a master volume helps.
Crank up the preamp to get 'that tone' then use master volume to keep peoples ears from bleeding and permanent hearing damage Smilie

I'd love to get some feedback on this as well. I've already for the micro mustang and the spark so thinking of selling my katana artist and trying this or another tube amp. Hope somebody here has some experience!

In most modern amps, the wattage is for headroom, not volume. It's to keep the power amp from distorting and creating unwanted distortion or sag. The master volume is there for a reason.

I've only been able to find one review on it by guitar MAX, and then a review on the combo version.. Seems this one is fairly new.

There are some bad reviews on Monoprice product page, take that into consideration.

Unfortunately, "that tone" is poweramp distortion for many people. Crank up the master, keep the gain low and bring it up slowly until it happens. The amp just starts breathing.

Disagree. A good tube clean channel paired with choice of overdrive/distortion pedal is a great option. Lots of great choices from Friedman, the new Marshall reissues, etc.

I have to disagree with that with all due respect. I have a JCM900 head I bought honestly because it was a Marshall. It frankly has iffy gain for what I wanted. But the clean tone through that amp is butter smooth and warm. My experience owning a few tube and a few ss heads is that there is a big difference on the clean tone. So if the clean is good, you can throw a Tube Screamer or a Boss in front and do a lot with it
