Discover Card just announced April-June 2023 Cash Back categories. You can enroll now to begin saving NEXT month at Restaurants & Wholesale Clubs.
Pro tip: Costco.com accepts Discover, where you can buy Shop cards which can be spent in physical clubs where Discover isn't accepted. Also Restaurants commonly run Mother's/Father's Day gift card promos during Q2.
It was always necessary to enroll to earn, but this is the first year that I can remember where they didn't announce the full calendar far in advance.

Buy the Costco Shop card from Costco online and get the 5% ($75) in one go!
Note that it took 1-2 weeks to get the card by mail

or buy their physical cash cards online for use at gas stations
thanks. this is what i plan to do is buy in the store a bunch of costco shop cards for use at the gas pump but i'm afraid my current membership will expire (i do not plan to renew) before i can use them all. i don't need a membership at the pump, correct?
btw, totally 100% samsclub here but willing to explore costco with this deal and the free costco membership i rec'd.

Probably a better use of this would be to buy GC that typically aren't on sale. For example Disney GC @ BJ's, $500 is $479.99, less discount $455.99 which is a 8.8% discount.
I've never been in any Costco that really had any sort of selection of GC.
Would this 5% therefore turn into an effective 10% cash back rewards if you open a new card for the beginning of April?
Online Costco is notoriously higher than in-store Costco. That's one of my pet peeves with them - an organization like BJ's can have an app where you can expresspay (scan and go equivalent), and has curbside pickup, AND app prices are true to what's in the store (that is, I can look up store pricing from my phone) BUT Costco, a company literally 10 times the size of BJ's, doesn't have any of that.
As for "buy Shopcard online and use in store", that's a PITA just to scrape a couple %.
