Discover Card just announced April-June 2023 Cash Back categories. You can enroll now to begin saving NEXT month at Restaurants & Wholesale Clubs.
Pro tip: Costco.com accepts Discover, where you can buy Shop cards which can be spent in physical clubs where Discover isn't accepted. Also Restaurants commonly run Mother's/Father's Day gift card promos during Q2.
It was always necessary to enroll to earn, but this is the first year that I can remember where they didn't announce the full calendar far in advance.

That's hilarious. You're disappointed in a credit card for not catering a discount to your spending habits. Man, that's some level 8 entitlement.

How do you know? This offer starts in 2 days!
Because Discover has had this as a category before and using it to buy costco shop cards online has always worked that way to get the 5%
If I understand it correctly, this is the better way to go since using Discover to pay would incur the 2-3% processing fee, correct?
Additionally, I only have a few months on my membership and it's currently only $9 to get the Plus membership for the remaining time. This adds 2% back in Sam's cash.
So in this case, I would buy a gift card at Samsclub.com to earn 5% cash back. Earlier in this thread, it was mentioned you can use a Sam's Club GC at Walmart.
My exception to this rule is when buying "higher ticket" items such as electronics. I have a Citi card that extends warranties by 2 extra years. So if I'm buying a $500 iPad (or other items that are expensive to repair), I'd rather have the peace of mind of the long warranty than 5% cash back. I don't think that applies to a swing set (although it might, depending on manufacturer warranty and cost). I'm foregoing earning some cash back, but the one time I have an expensive repair that's covered by Citibank, I'll wind up ahead.
I'm not sure why you mentioned a processing fee; the merchant pays the 2%-3% interchange fee on credit cards, not the consumer.
Costco's prices are lower than any regular store. Your membership will easily get offset by the savings and if you go with the executive for $120 a year you get 2% back.
Spend $6k a year/$500 per month, the membership is free. We spent that on groceries alone there. Additionally some heavy driving folks save over $120 year on gas saving alone. Now factor in what you saved on the price of the products as you will be saving alot.
Can't you do basic math?

Thanks!
Yes you can
Also they don't issue the physical membership card anymore. By using the app at the fuel pump, payment with gift card is no longer possible.

It should because SC is just a form of payment.
