This GPU is the 80W variant of the 3070 Ti, so don't expect mind-blowing performance in AAA games after you finish filing your TPS reports.

I haven't bought gaming laptop/desktop for a while. Is it still true that gaming desktop is still outperform or more power than laptop?

Yes. Everything is a trade-off.

Ok. I'll wait for a desktop deal then. I don't need it to be portable.
Why this one is even more expensive than the 3080 Asus from Amazon?

No one would expect "mind-blowing performance in AAA games" anyway because this isn't a gaming laptop to begin with.

Nah, this is totally one of those machines that they made so kids can ask for it and be like, I need it for school, totally, to do science and stuff. LMAO

There's no legitimate reason for these components except for games.

I ordered one of these last year - It was a great package overall, build quality, display, keyboard, speakers, upgradable - I had the A1000 4GB gpu and it would thermal throttle on overwatch after 10 minutes. Not really useful for gaming. I sent it back because the battery life was abysmal - about 3-4 hours just watching some youtube on 60-70% brightness.

For this price, you could buy a much faster M1 Pro Macbook Pro.

Not relevant. The M1 gpu is roughly equivalent to a GTX 1050 TI. So not even in the same ballpark.

Was just about to ask…

Not good for gaming as its main purpose, but wicked for gaming when you can and not having to carry another laptop…

Personally I don't even need a discrete GPU. If I want to do gaming I'll use a PS5 or a desktop. Thinkpads aren't meant to be gaming machines.
