I got this back at $800. I've never heard better personally. The biggest thing that impresses me about this unit is I can listen below "15" on the volume and don't feel like a miss anything I might hear at "30", for example. The sub, especially, is extra competent at lower volumes. No dropouts on my unit. A+

Well I ended up pulling the trigger. I stacked cb from another site for $50 back and paid via PayPal where I had a 13% Samsung cashback offer saved. If everything works out I would have paid $1,014 -$50 -$132 = $832 after tax.

Already got email confirmation from PayPal for the cb.

I asked them if they can give me additional discount. The rep asked if I love samsung products. I said yes and I own many samsung appliances. The rep gimme 10% off.

Had this sound bar since July, and been amazing from day one. Absolutely ZERO issues. The latest firmware in past month really did expand the sound field, and gave a big boost in bass, from both subwoofer and main. It improved the already great performance by at least 20%

Have tried many sound bars over the years , including Sont hta9, Ambeo Max, none come close to this.

Sony wowed for first few moments, but the sound quality in everything but massive explosions left was pedestrian. It makes for a good demo, and then leave you wanting more.

Ambeo wowed what it could do, and room filling, but leave you frustrated why oh why they don't give rear options. For pure music ,Ambeo has edge. For video, q990b.

990c will NOT be the upgrade it was from 990a to b. It will be identifical visually, and suspect 990b will receive much of the new software improvements. Heck,,perhaps it was already pushed out with the bump up in performance past month. Yes, it was that noticeable and almost gave me the new unboxing feeling of hearing for first time.

Ona side note, ditto for qn95b. Recent 1420 to 1430 software vastly improved blooming and color. Samsung is ON their game updating their products from phones to tv and audio. They must have their software team in a virtual sweatshop the way they are pushing out updates left and right across their l vast line of products!

It depends on how important dolby atmos is to you or will be to you in the future.

The 910b does not have an upwards firing rear speaker. so its listed as 9.1.2 system. So at best the 910 can only be considered a partial atmos system (only the front speaker is upwards firing)

the 990b has the atmos upwards firing and side firing rear speaker (and larger speakers all around plus an upgraded subwoofer) its listed as 11.1.4 system. the samsung 990b also has an auto eq setup. So it should be useful to adjust sound to odd size rooms.

but there is another samsung option not on the website. best buy sells a samsung 930b. That is a 9.1.4. its essentially and 910b with the an upwards firing rear speaker. But since the 930b is more expensive in the 990 right now, there is no reason to consider it.

I have not gotten my 990b yet, but I am hoping it matches the hype.

Is the 990B really worth $300 more.............?

I have the 910B off the earlier $450 deal. Is it worth upgrading to this for $400 more?
Besides rear atmos, everything else seems identical.

Anyone tired both and notice any real difference?

Anyone else get this???

I don't have room to place the surround speakers in the rear or side. Do you still get decent surround experience with the surround speakers upfront? Also, I have 13 ft tall ceiling (flat), would Atmos work with this system?
I haven't placed them in the front yet (looking for stands), but I expect them to be good enough for most shows due to the up-firing speakers combined with Q-Symphony, and that there is a setting allowing them to be placed in front or rear.

Moving the surrounds will require running the sound calibration again.

Edit: I too have 13ft ceilings with a large 2ft deep dish. The room is 20x20. As you face the TV, the front entranceway is on the right and kitchen/bar behind and open space. The sub is to the left of the TV and the port is facing the left wall and the speaker side faces the TV wall. Seems to fill the room quite well.

Did you like Q-Symphony? I enabled it on my 85 QN90A and I felt that the sound was too front heavy, and it completely killed the immersion of the surround system as a whole.
Re-run the soundbar calibration. You can use the Smart Things app to enable/disable the voice and bass enhancements. Also make sure you do not have it in night mode.

Verify the Sound settings on the TV:
  • Sound Output: [AV] Soundbar (Q990B)
  • HDMI e-ARC: Auto
  • Digital Output Format: Pass-through

That last setting is very important (otherwise the TV would do the surround processing), as is the source material being played.

Ive been burned on Samsung soundbars in the past and reading these reviews it looks like they still havent sorted their QC issues. Maybe spring for the extended warranty if you pick this up

This soundbar has connection issues. I've had mine for a few months and the soundbar drops sound intermittently. It's pretty annoying when the sound cuts off for 1-2 seconds during a movie or show. I knew it had issues before I bought it but decided to take the chance. It sounds great but should have gotten the Sonos arc in hindsight because of the connection issues.
I've not had this issue at all and I have multiple Ubiquiti APs and multiple Samsung soundbars (Q800/Q910/Q990). You may be getting interference from something close by such as a wireless satellite box or attempted connections to a phone via Bluetooth or wifi.

Can anyone who just bought this confirm that samsung stopped putting the stickers on top of the soundbar inside the box?

I also use a Ubiquiti AP. I only watch stuff from a Chromecast that is connected to the HDMI on the soundbar directly and then HDMI from the soundbar to the TV. I wonder if that could be causing issues.

Its possible as I believe the ideal set up is to have a TV with eArc on it and high speed hdmi cables going both ways.

Why do EPP/EDU posts keep hitting the front page? Do that many people have access to this? I can't imagine that many people with an edu email are spending 1k on a sound bar.
There are many companies that participate on programs with Samsung. Abenity is one such program that companies use.

Not sure if anyone else who ordered yesterday had the same experience, but I got the shipping notification on mine within probably an hour of placing the order, and it's going to be delivered WAY earlier than the product page told me it would (it was supposed to come middle of next week, and now it's coming on Thursday of this week). Tracking number confirms it's actually moving too. Not sure if I barely made some magical time cut off for their shipping for the day or something, but damn Samsung's logistics operation is smooth.
