Not bad, though the 512GB is a letdown.

For gaming laptops, that display is fine in indoor, even with bright lights because of being a matte display. There are plenty of reviews for the last year's model using the same Panel which you can check. The display actually goes over 300 nits, around 330-350 nits. The price is actually a bit cheaper for a RTX 4080 and 13th gen HX series Processor and probably display is the one where they cut corners.

The problem with the whole laptop 40 series is the laptop can not output the watts to take full advantage of the GPU.

How is that different from the 30 series or 20 series? Laptops have always had lower TDP due to being laptops.

iirc, jarrod tech's review showed 3070 was pretty close desktop vs laptop.. where in the 40x, the laptop variants are barely half the power;; cause physics, else melt the laptop

That was due to the power consumption of the 3070 desktop and laptop being fairly close. I do agree with you on the physics. That being said, you can get a 4080 laptop that will compete very well with a 3090 desktop.

yeah a reasonable minimum today is 400 nits. 500 is ideal. 300 nits means HP is just taking out the trash.
