I bought the SN850X just because I don't have to deal with a potential fatal reported bug in some versions of the 2tb samsung ssd. Supposedly this is now fixed with the newer firmware but why take the risk.

edit: missed that this was for 1tb, you should be fine either way

According to this guy [youtube.com] at least, the WD is a better buy. But the differences seem pretty minor, and not something you'd notice in a PS5 application. So I think you're good either way.

Crazy expensive 2TB drives are $89 and 1TB $42 and here we have Samsung bending you over for some fun that requires lube. Performance SSDs should be a couple bucks more not 2X especially now when there is a massive oversupply of DRAM and NAND memory right now.

I had a cheap ADATA SSD fail on my home built computer so I was looking at these 980 as a replacement. The prices in the links for the built-in heatsink 980 is coming up the same as the
non heat sink 980 model (thermal control) so would the one with the built in heat sink be the way to go for a home PC? I not a gamer but possible better protection is better right?

The WD is a little better. But you can buy it direct from WD site and use paypal for 12% back.

Thats what I did for the 2tb model.
