Got 4 x18 16tb from them a few months back for my jellyfin server. Everything works great. Would buy from them again if I was in the market.

I bought two of these from them. One is working the other failed. Started return process yesterday. Very responsive but they refused to pay for the return shipping cost due to the number of days that passed from the purchase date. I purchased it back in December. So keep that in mind if you have a bad device.

This makes me wish I just got a bunch of these over the WDs I shucked. I've just never had good experiences with Seagate consumer drives

For the folks saying these shouldnt be used as desktop drives, not even for just data drives? How oftern would they be noisy at night if they aren't being read/written to?

Backups isn't just about protecting yourself from failing drives. Other than fire, if they steal your whole server, then your parity isn't going to help you.

Also, a bad PSU, a lightning, an electric surge etc can all kill your drives and no parity can help if all drives are dead.

you have a better chance dying from a plane crash than what you just described.

They are silent when spun down. I run an unraid with these, they only make noise when first waking up, or having a lot of read/writes off them at once. Otherwise, watching 2 streams via jellyfin they are silent.

So i run 2.5 PiB on two racks and two unraid servers with over 1 PiB and never had an issue.
but thanks for letting us all know that a surge can kill hdds, what you failed to explain is that you should use whats called a UPS with battery backup to prevent surges.

If losing more than 2 hard drives on parity is usually a user error not know how to properly work the software running the array than a electrical surge. proper server enterprise hardware prevents any of this happening when a PSU dies. never heard such a thing in my life. 30+ years working with computers.. Unless your electrical power or house is not grounded that may result in a bad issue for any electrical device plugged into your house

Most stuff can easily be protected using a good quality UPS..

Also people seem to fail to understand it is good to keep your hdds between 39-45c , anything higher on idle will decrease the lifespan . But in all seriousness i have hdds dating back to 1991 and work fine. You will notice your hdd will be bad once it is fully written too.
So i suggest everyone to do this within 30 days , after that you will be paying for the shipping to return the defective hdd. Have a two year warranty is awsome.

In 2 years 22TB will be this price as we will be up to 28-30+ TB drives. This is all dependent on the economy and manufacturing.
