card was already over priced to start just like nvidia. AMD also recently slowed supply to create their own shortage.
so be ready they're going to use scare tactics (scalpers) to get you buying cards again
Of course prices will go down but dont be surprised if you only save 50 bucks and have to wait months.

Also, the 4070Ti is only 9-10% slower than the 7900 XT. It draws way less power and the extra VRAM helps it very little at 4K. At 800 dollars, I would also go with AMD but there are many who would chose the Nvidia for its more flushed out and mature ecosystem.

DLSS, Ray Tracing, VR, Streaming, 3D related tasks/video processing? Nvidia takes the crown in all of these departments. Regardless overall the 4070 TI is only about 9-10% slower so it's not that much worse overall.
Not to mention it draws less power, outputs less heat but those are more secondary reasons.

Arguably, AMD has a more robust GPU management suite embedded right into their drivers with features like Radeon Chill and Freesync support is more ubiquitous as there are plenty of Freesync monitors that aren't supported by Gsync.
If you care a lot about idle power, then yup, Nvidia is your go to, for sure.
In any case I agree and think in a more sane world these are all $200-$300 cheaper than they are even now. Sadly that's not likely to happen for some time.

The only thing holding me back from the current gen AMD cards is the non-gaming performance. A couple youtubers complained of crashes in DaVinci and other video editing programs.

Nvidia's R&D is many times larger than AMD's. Combined with the fact that the latter's resources is split between its CPU and GPU divisions, it makes sense that they must focus on whats most important which is raster performance. Its why Nvidia is a better card for productivity and other areas (DLSS, RT, Video encoding, etc).
Furthermore they have yet to completely fix VR issues with the new RDNA3 cards. My 7900 XTX is roughly the same as my 6900 XT when running HL Alyx for example. Its a well documented issue.
Either way im not advocating for the 4070 ti over this. My original point is that at 900 dollars this wasnt going to sell well over a cheaper 4070 ti or even a 7900 xtx
Here is a thorough benchmark that pit the 4080 against the XTX.
