1. It's like pushing a dead weight on my area rug.
2. It's made of cheap plastic especially the handle and the tube connecting the handle to the main. - so much so that it bends. So pushing/pulling it hard will put stress on parts.
3. The hose extension for the wand/tool is very awkward. It wants to contract so much so that if you're not being forceful or strong enough it will bend right at the handle. If you're not extremely delicate with this machine the hose will likely break at this point. I've even seen pictures online of this. Also for some reason the suction from the wand extension seems way less than the carpet suction especially if you use a flimsy brush attachment that has bristles that bend all the way when using on the floor.
4. Not sure about this one but the animal has 3 height settings on the base of the vacuum. Not only is this a pita but if you don't force the machine in a straight position while changing the height level the vacuum will fall unless you're holding it well. - again, bad design and cheap plastic may cause issues. And having to lift this vacuum to higher floors may test this theory.
5. Because of all these issues - vacuuming my house takes 2-3 times as long as any of my old vacuums
6. Mine came with a hardwood floor attachment which would seem like an excellent idea but again, using it with the awkward hose that you have to fight with to keep extended kind of makes any extra attachments seem like more work.
7. The hardwood floor attachment does work kind of well under the circumstances. But, I have a Swiffer that will do the job better, faster, easier and with less work.
This vacuum does very well on regular carpets I have to say, but the work and time needed, the weight, the extra care needed so that parts don't break, the design flaws and seemingly good extra attachments that either don't work well or you don't need make this vacuum a hard pass in my opinion.

Can't tell if that's good or bad
It's a vacuum. If it doesn't suck that's bad

I heard that the Animal version has more suction. During Mar 2018, I bought a refurbished UP14 for $195 after coupon plus $33 eBay CB. It is still working great. Recently, the carpet brush roller bar went bad and I changed it for about $30 during Feb 2023. I didn't want to buy another one for $200.

Im in the return process for the animal 2. This looks like the same general design and it's going back for several reasons:
1. It's like pushing a dead weight on my area rug.
2. It's made of cheap plastic especially the handle and the tube connecting the handle to the main. - so much so that it bends. So pushing/pulling it hard will put stress on parts.
