If you're looking for some bespoke 9 piece suit to wear to your job at the saloon themed mixology bar, or because you're in Mumford & Sons, you prob shouldn't be buying online anyway.
If you are on SD because you like making smart purchases, get these. They are just fine. Thousand upon thousand s of men wear CK, Nautica, Tommy, etc. suits and they somehow manage to get though their workday looking professional.
It's something I needed for an upcoming event. Might get used a couple times a year at most.
I know everyone says it's junk when a suit isn't 100% wool, but I do not understand these comments. Craftsmanship looks good, I didn't see anything that would suggest it's going to fall apart or the quality was junk.
Sure, if you have a job that require you to wear a suit more than a handful of times a year, get something you like made from wool, otherwise this will be just fine.
Is this worth $400? No, probably not. Is it worth $100, yes, absolutely.

It also doesn't help that all of the Goodwill stores in my area separate the pants from the jackets on the shelves. So even if you hit the lottery and find a nice looking jacket that fits properly, there'll be no pants because someone bought them already. This is less of a problem if the suit is a pinstripe, or has some sort of obvious pattern/color combination that nobody would want a pair of pants in, but good luck finding a navy or charcoal gray suit at a thrift store.
People who want to wear plastic suits will wear plastic suits and convince themselves they're better for it.

Find a jacket with good shoulders? Sleeves are too long.
Find one with correct sleeves? Shoulders too big.
Find one with correct sleeves and shoulders? Jacket too short.
etc.
Some of these things can be easily fixed (such as the sleeves) but others are going to be deal-breakers (like the shoulders) and the only way to really tell is to try all the jackets on in person. I wear a 42R in some brands and fits but a 40R in others and sometimes even a 42S. I guess if you have a local Macy's and can return this, it's worth a gamble but if not, I wouldn't risk it.
In the end, I ended up buying a few suits off eBay for a fraction of the cost of a new suit at JC Penney and of much higher quality as well. It'll take some work and you'll have to sift through hundreds of listings to find something worth having, but IMO, it's worth going the second-hand route on a better quality suit than a brand new sub-par suit at a dept. store.
Go to Walmart and buy one of these [walmart.com], have someone help you get your measurements by following a guide like this [suitsexpert.com], then start looking on eBay for listings that provide good measurements of ALL parts of the jacket and pants. You can use filters to narrow it down, but unfortunately shoulder width isn't an option and that's basically the most important part of the jacket. Pants can be altered quite a bit so those are usually easier to deal with. Make sure there's extra material in the hem if the pants inseam is too short and also extra material in the cuff if the sleeves are too short on the jacket. After that, get a local tailor to make everything fit perfectly. If the listings indicate how much material there is to take out (such as for pants waist), great...if not, ask. You don't want to buy a pair of 34 waist pants that started as a 32 and expect them to go up to a 36 if that's what you need.
I personally wouldn't buy anything from anyone that doesn't offer returns due to you being at their mercy for taking accurate measurements. Some sellers even offer free returns so there's minimal risk if it doesn't work out. The first suit I tried ended up being too tight in a few places so I had to send it back. The measurements were correct on the listing, it was my fault for interpreting them wrong.
In the end, I ended up with three suits in total:
- A lightly used navy Banana Republic 2-button suit in 100% Marzotto Super 120s wool for $80
- A brand new dark navy Indochino 2-button suit in 100% Merino wool for $60
- A lightly used charcoal gray Italian-made Brooks Brothers 3-button suit in 100% Vitale Canico wool for $31.34!
In all three of these purchases, I either made an offer 20-25% less than asking price, or in the case of the Brooks Brothers suit, the seller offered it to me for the $31 price. The key is to add a bunch of potential suits to your watchlist and usually within 24-48 hours, you'll receive offers from the sellers much lower than asking price.Obviously, this strategy doesn't work if you need a suit for an interview next week, but if you've got time, there's some real finds to be had on eBay for suits.
