You wheels will wear through the thin plastic rubber like material. If you use a rolling chair.
I wouldn't really call it carpet. It's more plastic fabric. Mine came in a plastic folded bag. I had to use a steamer to get rid of the creases. This 4x3 "Carpet" comes in a 1foot square bag folded and i mean folded like a piece of paper.
If your goal is to protect your hardwood floor, I suggest replacing the wheels instead. I have something similar to this.

I wish there existed a mat with spikes on the bottom that goes on thick carpet that has a low-pile carpeted top like this one. But alas, such a product doesn't seem to exist.
So I put a regular plastic chair mat on the carpet and put a low-pile rug on top of it that was big enough for my desk to stand on to keep it from moving. Works like a charm.

Get this and a matched size plastic mat and use spray adhesive to attach them together.

The heavy tempered glass ones work well. I've got one of those. Costco had one for 50 bucks I believe

I bought heavy glass from Lowes, 50$ at costco would be a much better price though, mine was $90 but works great.

I did this but the wheels actually roll too well now. I don't like how easily I roll away from the desk now just by resting my hands down. Looking to add a mat for a little bit more friction resistance.

I second this. I ditched those mats long ago and switched to silicone wheels. They're better in every way.
Lol!!!
I love how one of the pictures shows with and without. The without looks like someone took a knife to the floor. The one with the mat is a freshly stained one. I guess your floor gets stained too automatically with the new mat 😂

Alternatively, if you really want to use your original wheels on hardwood, spent an extra $8 and get a real mat that will look and work better and last a lot longer: https://www.homedepot.c
Don't waste your money on this paper thin folded SD promoted garbage.
