My Discover rewards are 5% off Bestbuy and 10-2020% off at BestBuy and Ebay through my period Shoprite grocery giftcar promos which run periodically on the $50 and 100 card spend.
I should be able to put a dent in this with my Amazon spending although the category is really limited for Q2.

My post was about EARNING 5% cashback when I buy things- if I know I'm gonna spend money at Amazon and happen to be at Lowes, why not earn 5% cashback with my Chase card by picking up an Amazon giftcard?
What you're talking about is when you REDEEM points at Discover to get a 5% discount... which doesn't help since Discover's Q2 bonus categories suck for me (would have been great during Q1) so I don't have any points to spend at Discover.
It's not that it's 5% cash.
It's that it's 5x UR points.
Which for those who travel is much more valuable than 5% cash.
(also you can get 5.25% cash at amazon (or any other online purchase) year round with a BOA card and plat honors status- so that beats both the quarterly cards and the amazon card if you're a non-travelling cashback only person FYI)
