Garbage food. SD $hilling for Unhealthy Pet Food Megacorp again.

FYI, if you try to counter that it has 4 stars on DogFoodAdvisor, it is a pay-for-play scam started by a dentist: https://pethelpful.com/dogs/Why-Y...od-Advisor

Unfortunately, there is nothing like CatFoodDB for canines.

These are good choices: https://www.insider.com/guides/pe...r-adults-1

The first ingredient chicken is fine, but it loses most of its bulk when the water is removed when making dry food.

The next ingredients are Ground Whole Grain Corn, Ground Whole Grain Sorghum. Both are cheap non-digestible fillers that simply make more bulk deposited on your lawn, and you're paying for that. Then there's animal by-product meal, which is yet another indicator of low protein content, due to animal by-products being classified as a low-quality protein source (and unfit for humans). It is basically left-overs and waste products from a slaughter-house.

This is typical for Megacorp brands. For around the price of this godawful stuff, you can get higher-than-average nutrition foods from companies that are not huge multinationals.

yea I get for the msrp price you can do better (Blue Buffalo, ToTW etc)
but at the price of this deal (3lbs/$1) this would at least be better than anything else in that range which would be the supermarket kibble that have corn etc listed as first ingredient right

Not many Megacorp foods have corn listed as the first ingredient, but they do creative accounting to get around that. In bulk, many essentially have cow food as the first ingredient due to the meat being dehydrated during processing.

I'm talking about the cheapest of dogfoods at typical grocery stores, like this https://m.media-amazon.com/images...NaryXL.jpg where corn is pretty standard as the 1st ingredient, this is what some lower income pet owners may default to as it is the most commonly accessible food for <$1/lb

my point is the Iams in this deal is at least significantly better than the comparable options in that price range

You can feed raw for about the same cost as processed dog food which is not any good. Dogs are actually more sensitive to carbohydrates than humans which is the reason cancer rates are so high in dogs. In my area Aldi and Lidl have sales of fresh chicken for $0.59 - $0.79 a pound sometimes. May not be as good a price as pet food and its more trouble to process but at least it gives your pet a chance to live a full life without passing due to cancer. Plus feeding raw cuts out the need for the tick and flea pesticides given to animals. As a raw diet is natural the animals blood does not attract ticks and fleas as its more acidic.

So what would be a good dog food for dogs? I feed blue life protection and mix in cooked chicken/turkey/beef. Also do a mix with royal canin when found on sale.
