But.. Some ssds slow down after x amount is filled.

They all slow down that's why you want to get a big one and keep it less than half full

If your drive has a lot of huge files and a few small files, then you can use a bigger allocation unit size when formatting the drive. This can bring some performance improvement.

I think it might be safe to assume that some 2TB Gen 4 PCIe NVMe SSDs will get down to $120 by BF...

I think some major brand like 980 pro and Sn850/x will definitely hit $120 by BF. Some other less well-known can even hit $100 or less by the same time IMO.

Why would EITHER of those be the drives to reach that price? You picked two of the BEST drives available and are stating those are the ones to reach low end price point? I don't get it.

I said 980 pro & sn850 will hit $120 and others will hit $100. which point do you not get?

edit: i guess you were saying how do 980 pro and sn850 able to get that low. here are my thoughts

1. Recent amazon deal (despite it may be price mistake) from early march had 2TB SN850x for $110.

2. Last BF, 2TB sn850x was $170. On 2/19/23, same ssd was on sale for $155. With linear extrapolation, it will reach $105 by this BF.

3. new PCIe 5.0 SSD are available on the market now (Inland and Gigabyte Aorus). Its just a matter of time for other company to move onto new ssd and getting rid of PCIe 4.0 SSD.

4. Despite being sanctioned by the US, chinese NAND manufacturer is making sounds in the NAND market, and more NAND competitor in the market will help on the cost of SSD.
