Steam Deck is without a doubt the best tech purchase I've made in a long time.

If you are somewhat tech savvy I recommend the 64GB model paired with a 512GB or 1TB micro SD card. You can always upgrade the internal SSD if necessary. The issue with the 64GB is shaders must be stored on internal drive, not SD card, so between the OS and shaders the drive fills up fast.

If you don't feel like messing with opening the deck up, go for the 256GB model paired with a 1TB micro SD card.

The 512GB model only worth it for anti glare screen if you feel like you'll be playing it often outside.

Some must have programs for deck:

Decky loader - plugin manager for themes, power tools, and much more

EmuDeck- old school games emulation

Steam Rom Manager - adds your emulation game to steam, categorized by system with full game box and cover art

I also highly recommended a 45w power bank, the decks biggest weakness is battery life, you'll want a battery pack for travel

Be aware not all games run out of the box. Some require tweaking or custom proton versions to run properly.

ProtonDB.com lists game compatibility for all games and is a great resource, it's also a plug-in for decky

It has not. The company has stated very recently there is not a new version coming anytime soon. Stop spreading BS

There is only one m.2 slot so you'll remove the 64gb ssd and change it with a 1tb ssd. There are walkthroughs on youtube and from Valve on how to replace it.

Just pop an SD card in it. SSDs have no speed advantage in the deck as the unpacking by the processor is bottlenecking the read speed. You can find a lot of game loading time tests online. I got a 64Gb one for my son and the 512gb card is very fast in it.
This table suggests that nvme drives load significantly faster in the steam deck compared to micro SD cards.

Nice find op. I wonder if this means that they will start showing up in physical stores like Best Buy and such soon.

Do you know what is the best 1tb hd? whats the price range around?
I bought mine from Sabrent directly, though you can get on Amazon and elsewhere. Highly recommend this one and selected it because it seems very popular in the community.

Note two big considerations with whichever you get are power draw and making sure all components are on a single side of the board.

Honestly, this is one of the best devices I have ever purchased. No regrets at all. You can play almost any game system ever created.
Same. I played more games since I got the Steam Deck.

Has the touchscreen sensitivity issue been fixed?

The touchscreen was not as responsive as a cellphone or tablet so I had to press harder on the screen than I would with a cellphone or tablet.

Is there any advantage to buying a Steam Deck if I already own an Odin Pro? Currently, I'm using the Odin Pro mainly for emulation. I have Windows and Android dual booting off of it but I haven't played with the Windows side much. I want to eventually load Steam for Windows on it.

Just for a point of reference, I am a Steam newbie. As in I don't really own any games on Steam. I do have XBOX Ultimate Game Pass.

Is there a legit way to put your Switch games on it? Would rather play some on the Deck rather than the Switch.

How is the screen on this? I have trouble playing gamepass cloud through my s22 ultra and razor controller. The screen is just too small. Is this an improvement on ability to see things on screen?
Steam Deck 7.0" screen with much lower resolution, 60Hz and IPS LED display with 400nit brightness...S22 Ultra has 6.8" screen with MUCH higher resolution, 120Hz refresh and it's an AMOLED, 1750 nits

The physical difference is only .2", but I have a much easier time seeing details without my reading glasses at the lower resolution on the Deck. Depends on the game too...many of the compatible games have been tweaked to present well on the Deck.

New steam deck coming out
not until 2025 probably. And that would be a "pro" model with slightly more efficient chip/battery/screen etc. Will be minor upgrade at most
