If you like gaming and don't have one, you should get one.

Is 512gb a good value? How much storage should one upgrade to? 1tb or 2tb?
SSD prices are low and continue dropping. 1 TB is probably enough, but if I buy a Steam Deck I'll go for 2 TB most likely just because of the low prices, but I'll wait as long as possible to save the most money.

Which brand 1tb did you get?
Sabrent Rocket 1tb 2230 nvme ssd runs great. I split the ssd into two partition and put Steam Os and Windows 10. Was able to run Valorant, Fortnite, Minecraft and Roblox pretty well. Also installed all my favorite media player like youtube, disney+, prime video, netflix, viki and youtube tv inside Steam Os and play it in Game mode. All these things you can learn from watching a minute youtube video. And windows 10 runs great, just make sure you follow the exact procedure or you will be wiping the ssd multiple times.

Dangit! I just got mine last week 😣 It's a great device. I love it so far
I did as well. They have a 14 day return policy and I have heard some people had luck with them refunding you the difference to price matching the sale price.

I am waiting for a response back but I do have a Credit Card that will also refund the difference.

I'm on the fence about purchasing one, mostly because I don't have a lot of time to tinker anymore. How plug and play is this? If my Steam library mostly consists of games 3+ years old, should I expect darn good performance? How about alternative store front support?

Appreciate your reply (or anyone's feedback) in advance!
You can go to www.protonDB.com and look up your games there, it will tell you whether they are verified or if they require tweaks.

Game compatibility has come a long way in Linux, most games work without any issue.

Only one of my games, Just Cause 2, was listed as unverified by valve but I was able to get it working flawlessly by following instructions on protonDB, which required downloading a piece of software called protonqt and installing a custom proton version. It's easier then it sounds.

Most current gen games run solidly at least 30fps, but some will absolutely annihilate the battery.

The deck has a very simple performance overlay that lets you change settings such as refresh rate, fps lock, brightness, and power consumption on the fly to make attaining peak performance simple.

I have not used any alternative storefronts but I believe heroic loader works with them.

I've found myself playing more puzzle games then I would have in the past. I've been picking up games from fanatical.com bundles for cheap and have found some real gems. To list a few examples:

-INSIDE
- The Swapper
-Limbo
-The Fall
- Baba is you
- The last campfire

I know every single user says this things is great and plays everything, and I don't doubt it.

I still can't get over the size of it, and the small 7" screen (to body) with 720p. I also know for this price, you cannot beat it (anything with a nicer screen or smaller form factor is 2 to 3 times the price).

For me, even though it runs great and is a great value, I don't think I'd really be using it much. If I'm home, I'll be on my PS5, or Switch if I need a portable (or Retroid Pocket 3+ if I need retro).

Many folks have already said pretty much the same thing, but I'll say I have absolutely no regrets getting a Steam Deck. They are just fantastic little machines. I also bought a USB-C dock for playing mine on the TV. If you get a dock for yours, make sure it supports 4k @60hz!

Get it or wait for a better sale? Was trying to get through my Switch backlog first (BOTW, Mario Odyssey, etc) but you guys are making this difficult. Like everyone, also have a Steam backlog and do enjoy playing games away from my desk.

Telling myself I don't neeeeed it right now...
Better sale? This sale is already silly enough. I wouldn't be shocked to see them put them on sale again during the next Steam sale(s), but hoping for more than a 10% discount anytime in the next year at least seems like wishful thinking.

It's not for everybody and I had reservations about the resolution, but it wasn't something I noticed *at all* when actually playing it. I dock mine to my TV all the time and I'm sure some of my games could be played at a higher resolution if I wanted, depending on how much GPU it needs.

That said, keep doing your thing and play games however you want. The most important part is playing and having fun!

Noob question. I don't have gaming pc only ps5. Would this satisfy my desire for nfl blitz games as well as call f duty mw2 2009 version that I only want to mod with pezbot to play bots locally with two players?

Because the 2230 sized drives only go as high as 2TB and 2TB costs around $250-$300. Not only that, but most people are happy with the speed of the micro SD card. Many reviews mention how they are surprised how fast they read in the Deck. A 1TB ssd with a 1TB sd card is more than enough for your average consumer and even your more enthusiastic gamer. Plus you can always connect an external drive via the USB-C port.
thank you. missed where it was a 2230 sized card.

Great deal especially for the 64GB model. I just purchased one on 3/14 so I emailed Valve asking to honor the price difference
i would upgrade SSD if you purchased 64GB.

I'm sorry if this questions has already been answered.

If the 64gb version is purchased and you install the hdd to a larger one, let's say the same day the unit arrives. Would you need to back anything up such as OS?

Thank you in advance.
