Guy on Amazon compared it to the X1 unfavorably. I have the X2HRs myself and would probably consider these a side grade; planars seem unique, but not necessarily preferable to conventional cans

I would not consider this an upgrade per se. The X2HRs are such a bargain you'd need to go significantly higher up in price to really surpass them.

That said, this is a decent price for mid-range planars, and if that's a sound you've been looking for it's a great place to start. I've got planar speakers and love them so I've been in the market for planar headphones but haven't bit yet. I'm highly considering getting these if just to try them out

The Monoprice M570 are my favorite headphones I own. I pair it with the THX amp and find myself preferring the M570 even compared to the Sennheiser 6XX. Can anyone tell me how these M1070's compare?

They scale pretty inline with the next model up... If you love the m570 (Which I also own), You'll love the m1070 (Which I also own) and of course you'll love m1570, which I also own.

There are a few caveats. The primary being they scale for most in sound quality, but ergonomics, weight, comfort are definitely preferential. The M1570 are stupid big and heavy - I don't mind and they are my daily drivers, but I don't need convincing they are just "too much" headphone for many.

Also, about sound quality, as I said, they scale up equally, BUT there are folks that tend to enjoy the bass of m1070 the most even if they don't sound all-around better than the M1570.

m1070 is a damn solid choice.
