In case the helps someone since I struggled a little bit to figure out. WD has its own version of Acronis software for free (5-year license) to use to clone drives as long as one of the drives is a WD drive. Awhile ago, I used Marcrum Reflect, but it's no longer free (at least I couldn't find the free version). I tried a few others and all limited to just data clone, not OS/system cloning with their free/trial version. Good thing I thought to check the WD website. I was able to clone my existing drive to this WD drive . Ended up switching to PNY so I cloned the WD to PNY without issues. It looks like PNY has its own Acronis version also, but I didn't have to use it for the 2nd cloning.
No, the drive needs to be in the 2230 size. This one is a 2280.

Crucial also has a free version of Acronis as long as you have a crucial drive. Between that and WD most people can access it for free

Good to know, was in the same boat. Appreciate this information as it saved me some time. -ThanksDude

Seems this is the link for the noted WD cloning software? https://downloads.wdc.com/acronis...WD_WIN.zip

Yup, that's the one. I should have added the link. Thanks for posting that.

You can still download Macrium Reflect free edition from third-party sites like this one [techspot.com].

Love this drive, got one around black Friday last year and upgraded my legion laptop. Used macrium reflect to do it, but glad to know WD offers a way to as well. My laptop is a little older with pci gen 3, but this drive blazes me to boot and with some games I have on it. Definitely recommend it.

I used the free trial of macrium reflect and it worked flawlessly.

Except I had to delete an allocated section in order to expand the size from 500gb to 2TB. Pretty easy to do

Grabbed this from Amazon a week or so ago at the same price. Grabbed 2 MHQJRH M.2 2280 double sided heatsinks to go with it Amazon also have on sale right now for $10 each. Teaching my daughter how to build a PC and needed to cover any potential heat issues she might have. Now waiting on the 2TB version to drop at $100 or below.

2TB Crucial P5 w free heat sink included is $122 at Best Buy right now. That's pretty close, considering the included heat sink.

Pros/Cons of 2x 1TB vs 1x 2TB?

I figure better reliability of 2x 1TB since if one ship goes down the other still works? Or is the TBW lower on 1TB drives so therefore not worth it?
TBW goes up proportional to size, so no benefit other than consolidating physical storage. You could just as easily partition the 2TB into 2x1TB for usage in the OS though too.

I purchased two of these 1 TB SN770 for $89 total, directly from the Western Digital Store. And two of the 2 TB SN850x with heatsinks, for $ 299. WD has become the gold standard for Gen 4 NVMe drives. With a PCIe expansion card you can add up to four additional of these drives in an open PCIe slot on your motherboard. That makes it very not worth it to buy SATA III internal SSDs any longer, in my opinion. Price is nearly the same.

I would hold the trigger this time. The biggest Nand flash maker Samsung's semiconductor Dep swing to 1q loss and estimate would be around $0.3 billion loss. but they didn't decrease in production. Also there was a big loss among 2nd, 3rd makers too.
S need to clear inventories that could trigger another chicken game. I think if we hold the trigger for a while we can see $2-3 per tb nvme in the near future.
Welcome to the era of deflation.

How did you get 2x 1TB for $89?
They are listed as $60 each.

They had a "buy 2, get 25% off" offer posted at the WD Store but only for a single day. $119.99-25%=$89.99. In fact the deal was up for fewer than 12 hours, but I got them to honor it.
