Unless you really need this to last 25 years for emergency storage, just buy TVP (textured vegetable protein) for $2-3 lb and some beef-flavored bouillon cubes for under a buck. It's less than half the price, still lasts for years in a pantry, and you can control the sodium content.
Great tip, but where are you getting TVP for $2-3 lb?

Most vegetarians aren't vegetarian because they dislike meat… they just have moral or religious issues with eating actual meat.

Surely this doesn't have to be explained on every fake meat post?
I have religious issues with pork, I don't try to make my beef taste like that. Hindus have been vegetarian for centuries without chasing the taste of beef

Good for you/them? Fake meats are extremely common in other cultures. There's an entire fake meat store in the Chinatown in my city. Chinese Buddhist cuisine has incorporated things like mock duck for centuries.

I don't understand why folks who clearly have no interest in meat substitutes come into a thread for a meat substitute product and start trash talking vegetarians....

Get a life
You assume people who are not vegetarians don't eat meat replacement products for lean protein sources to add to meat diet. The problem is that they try to imitate meat taste by adding artificial flavors and a ton of salt.

The logic behind this is bizarre and not factual. There is absolutely a population of people who follow Hinduism eating pork and chicken. Better yet, a lot of the vegetarian population that follow Hinduism eat soy chicken. 🙄

Vegetarians and vegan become as such for many different reasons.

Some can't physically consume some types of meat without getting sick.

Some have ethical and environmental reasons for it.

Some absolutely hate the taste of that umami profile.

Some relize consuming red meat overtime increases their risk for cancer.

Most important, I still can't figure out why people care so much. It's like you feel guilty for eating meat

Tried it 2 days ago. Trying to cut back on red meat. By itself, mehhhhhh. Mixed with nachos with cheese, tacos, or rice and hot sauce it was suprisingly good. The nachos I made with it had the 'meat' tasting like taco bell nachos, but better.

Pretty much tastes very similar with anything. No need to add salt to your meal as it's already salty.

Got 2 more cans. Maybe ill get more for a year from now.
