Normally what you said is true, but for this specific deal, it's a Quantity-based promo. Meaning, if you buy a Quantity of 2, you get the $5. Regardless of how you paid or what rewards you used.

I had the same issue until I switched to a different tube of toothpaste. I chose qty. of two of the "Colgate Total Deep Clean Toothpaste" to get it to work. Try that and see how it goes. If that doesn't work in your location, try different ones.

Read my post above. You have to select items that are eligible for free ship to store (for some reason or other, not all the Colgate toothpastes are eligible). You can only determine this by trial and error, which is what I did. So try the one I mentioned, it worked just fine for me. If that's sold out, try still another one. It will work if you get the eligible item into the cart.

I recommend:
1. Go to actual item page by clicking on your choice, don't add to cart from the promotion page linked here.
2. Add 2 from the shipping (ship to home) section, not ship to store section.
3. Next step offered me switching to free ship to store,
[without this shipping change trick it was asking 0.72 more for me as well.]

I am new to walgreens, do I just go there and show my ID to pick it up? and can I use the rewards on anything or are there exclustions

You walk-in and tell you name. So far they've never asked any IDs from me.

Yes it should roll. I just did it with a $5WC rolled into this. I always grab a screenshot of final checkout screen and then order confirm screen just in case these days.
