I go in once a month and use my $5 coupon on a $10 eShop card. It's a free game a year.
Can you still do this today? I knew they shut down digital currency and $5 (net free) cards, but you can still buy the $10 PSN with your $5 monthly credit in person, right?

I can confirm that although I can no longer use the monthly credit to buy $5 currency, it still works perfectly fine on $10 currency.
Nice. I'll have to give it a try. I used to be able to do it online, but they don't allow that anymore. I haven't tried in the store yet for game gift cards.
I got one of these blind bag Universal Retro Movies bag clips for $0.99 last time I was there. Potentially can get Back to the Future, Jaws, ET, or Jurassic Park.
Dumb. That is like saying Costco toilet paper is $70 because you need a membership.
Anyway, they are have a deal right now that is giving $10 rewards when you sign up. So the membership is $5 if you want to buy something.
to update on the rewards.... i'm not sure if you can use those rewards online anymore
u used to be able to use them on the app or the site (the 5 dollar monthly coupons) but this year they seemed to have changed it to you have to use them in person at the store
now with all the closings this makes it basically impossible to use... so yea the value of having a pro membership keeps going down year after year

Haha. I've been hearing this exact sentiment for 20 years. Just like when Best Buy wasn't going to make it because of Amazon and them ruining the gamers club.
Best Buy isn't going to make it but it at least has 5-10 years left before it dies. BB has zero competitive advantage over big box retailers and the online marketplace. Personally, I never choose BB when given a choice because of their lousy return policy. I like BB enough but I don't see an indefinite future for them.

>>, well i wouldn't use best buy as a comparison.... best buy sells services and rents out space directly to manufacturers to offset costs (and to help manufacturers not have to build out their own stores so people can see stuff in person)
to put this in perspective... there was one best buy / one best buy still stands today but overall the experience is pretty "meh" when going there other than it still has a fairly large physical game selection for console... everything either doesn't exist in the store or is in some warehouse offsite where there are tickets.. best buy lives but is it better than what it was??
now gamestop.. there were 4 stores in my area all covering a different part of town (minus the one inherited in the mall from the kbtoys buyout) ... there is now 1 in the whole local area of close to 400 thousand people that are within 20-30 mins of it... there were 3 just last year and 2 closed down just recently.... i'll be honest
i don't see them surviving much longer.... and that just comes down to the fact they don't offer much other than selling stuff ... hell they sold off their one thing making money for them which was a prepaid phone service

It's like Gamestop learned nothing from being nearly bankrupt
