There nas prices are getting ridiculous. They are going to price themselves out as people will just begin building themselves using rpi and external drives.

This is still being sold? This is long discontinued. What a support nightmare, this is literally 8 years old. 2015 release year

Agreed. I could understand if the HDs were the deal but 4x 6TB? No thanks.

The diskless unit alone retailed (discontinued) for 379.99 and each 6TB (WD Reds) retails for 99.99, so for less money and a few minutes would save you $120 and get you a better warranty on the drives at least (5y vs 2y)

In my mind this is not a deal and in fact a bad deal.

An absolutely horrible deal.

You can get a Synology DS-420j and four 6TB drives for under $750.00!
You'll get a similar class ARM CPU, the really great Synology OS and have something that will be supported for many years.

I have a DS-211+ that was released in 2011 and received it's last (not necessarily final) software update in May of 2022; 11 years of support.........and it is still up at running with no repairs, aside from hot drive swaps when they have inevitably gone bad. Not many manufacturers support their older products anywhere near this long.

new to the NAS market, how is this compared to the Synology, I want something that I could also run Home Assistant on it since the device is on 24/7 already.
