I think XCom is also 5-6 years old, but looks like a great one to sink a lot of hours into.
If you already know that you're going to like this game, then I would recommend the complete edition with the extra DLC. It lengthens the campaign a bit and adds a little more depth. Unfortunately, the expansions/DLC also add some bloat, which distracts from the main story arc. I found this a little disappointing in comparison with XCOM 1.
If you're a Game Pass subscriber, maybe give it another 6 months or so. Given that Civ 6 (same developer/publisher) just came to Game Pass, I wouldn't be surprised if the XCom games land there soon too. Also, check out Gears Tactics, which feels very similar to XCOM 2 and is a good game in its own right.

It seems to go on sale fairly often (I got it for $5 in April, 2022). You can check out all of the available updates and DLC by checking the "In This Bundle" list. I was quite confused by all of the options (I think some are just cosmetic updates), so this made it an easier decision. There are often deals on Steam, though it looks like it's just a big discount for the base game right now (https://store.steampowered.com/app/268500/XCOM_2/) [steampowered.com] right now. Also, there are hundreds of excellent mods for the Steam version via the Steam Workshop.
