From what I'm reading (first time shopper for stuff like this), yes they are too short to safely use on racks, these are for other more mobile exercises.

I bought the 7' version, paid $60 for it when I bought the bumper plate set. Can confirm this is a very nice bar. the bearings / bushings spin freely and the knurling feels great. I'm sure barbell snobs can find faults but having lifted in various commercial gyms over the years this feels as good as anything I've used, I've only put 315 on it so far but it's been rock solid for me.

It's extremely cheap to manufacture things in China, and the country has managed to maintain developing nation status (despite being one of the largest economies in the world) to get very, very favorable international shipping rates. When it comes to Walmart, they have a lot of power to negotiate prices due to their market position and sales volume. So it's actually pretty cheap to offer these things.

There's a staggering number of items that are cheaper to ship the raw materials and finished goods back and forth overseas rather than pay for labor and services here.
