Unfortunately, it looks like the METRX marketing department has succeeded. With 47g of carbs (tapioca starch, enriched flour) and 27g of it being added sugar (corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup), and then soybean and palm oil, this is not much more than a candy bar with more empty carbs and added protein. Even conservatively speaking, an actual meal replacement bar would not have greater than 50% of the serving be empty calories.

There is 30g of protein out of a 100g serving. You're getting 30% protein and 70% junk. Corn syrup and enriched flour wouldn't really make you full. It'll spike your blood sugar and make you hungrier and crave more food.

For comparison, this METRX bar has 410 calories, 12g of fat, 47g of carbs, 27g of added sugar, 30g of protein.
A regular Snicker's bar has 250 calories, 12g of fat, 33g of carbs, 27g of added sugar, 4g of protein.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the convenience of high protein meal replacement bars. There are cleaner options (though more expensive) like sans meal replacement. But personally I would go for an optimum nutrition individually packaged protein shake + a nuts and dried fruit trail mix.

TLDR: This METRX bar is just a glorified snicker's bar with added protein.

Whoa. 27 grams of sugar! Would rather have a standard protein shake and a bowl of ice cream.

for anyone that needs to know: 5lbs of isolate frontpage slickdeals typically work out to about 2-3cents per gram of higher quality protein. These contain soy protein. These work out to around 6 cents per gram, plus a huge amount of sugar they do look delicious though.

I usually don't mind a little added sugar in a meal replacement bar, but 27g added sugar is a bit much.

What is the biggest difference between protein shake vs a meal replacement?

The standard protein shake made from whey powder usually has low carbs and low fat, and is predominantly protein.

A meal replacement bar will mimic a meal by having some amount of fats, carbs, and protein.

The source of the three is what's important. I don't mind a lot of carbs in a bar, but i try to limit the added sugars and to make sure the majority of carbs are complex carbs.

way too much sugar. the Protein Plus bars are way better but it seems that MetRX is on its way out as they arent really stocked in any stores anymore (i used to be able to find them at any walmart) and their price online has gotten insane.

My favorite is the Super cookie crunch(The most popular flavor they have). Tastes like an oreo and yes has alot of sugar, BUT for someone who does not have time in the morning to eat breakfast, 410 cals and 30 grams of protein in a bar a'int bad especially since other brands don't offer the same high calories/protein content without having to eat 3-17 bars a day.

For people who are trying to find the product, they stock them at my local Walmart's and some best buy's now have single bars as well as some CVS's.

For those who are very concerned with sugar please drink at least 2 cups of water after eating this bar so that you can flush your system.

add 10 grams of protein instead of sugar and I'd be on this. But this is more weight gainer than protein bar at this portion size.

These don't taste as good as you think they would with all the sugar.

First, these are delicious. Second, almost all the other flavors have low/no sugar...which why these and the apple pie go on sale.

The peanut butter cup flavor is a tad more expensive, but it only has 2g of sugar according to the label. I guess I will give it a try.
Edit: It does have 21g of sugar alcohol though... lol

I think this flavor is spectacular. I've even had a few people try these who HATE protein supplements/snacks, and these pass that test. With that said, it still beats having a can of soda, or ice cream, as the other person suggested (or even a majority of foods that we eat, for that matter), and by a lot, but I can understand that most people should not be having this much sugar, in an already high sugar diet.
