This product is two complete starter decks that you can play with out of the box. If you want a feel for the game, Magic the Gathering Arena is a multiplatform F2P game that'll teach you how to play

starter decks are for people who want to learn how to play, if you are curious, the price is right for a game that you and a friend can enjoy. I got the 2022 version for $5 from someone on ebay with damaged packaging. it was well worth it to help teach my kids how the game works. after you get familiar with the basics youll need much more intricate combinations of cards to become competitive. the commander format is very popular in shops for casual play but expect to do some homework to get a good deck to be able to win against seasoned players, even in a casual setting. great game, great intro price, i recommend

No chance of getting the one card in these correct?
Correct. Only in the gift bundle and collectors bundle there is a chance.

Unfortunately, just like the Rings of Power, if you are a LotR fan, this is not for you.
Agreed. The LotR IP has really taken a nose dive. The show is a complete joke. MTG variation is shaping up to be pretty ridiculous as well.

This product is a bundle of intellectual property for creating shareholder value from a fandom with as little effort and cost as possible.

Isn't there only one ring card printed also. I read about it somewhere.
Imagine how much someone would be willing to pay for it.
The Serialized 001/001 'The One Ring' will only come in LotR Collector Booster Packs. There have been offers on twitter for the card ranging from $50k into six figures. Needs to be cast into the fire of a volcano if you ask me.

I can't even understand what you're talking about. How is Hasbro failing as a company? And why wouldn't you support Magic products if you want them to succeed, despite whatever it is you think Hasbro is doing to them?

Can someone explain to a non MTG player what all these different product types are? I just want to play the game as a LotR fan, I don't care about rarity or anything.
This is two regular 60 card starter decks, buying one of these is enough to play a 2 player game with you and a friend. If you are a non-player, this is the product to buy to get a feel for it and learn the game.

The commander deck packs are single 100 card decks. Commander being a different variant of the main game, the decks are more expensive and the rules are slightly different. You would need to buy 2 of those to play a game.

Echoing the other comments, the prebuilt 2 player decks are great if you are getting into Magic the Gathering for the first time. They are playable and limit the complexity to something digestible, and then you can add to it. Not sure about Hasbro sinking the franchise, but they have definitely kept up the pace of new products. Maybe that is the complaint - new products make old products less valuable? Companies have to make money and most companies don't make money of third party re-sales of used products.

Aragon and Arwen, Wed card in this deck is pre-selling for $20 on TCG Player. So... that'll drop in price, haha. Don't buy this product expecting to make money. Maybe 5+ years down the road, but not right away. The market will account for supply and demand, and there will be a lot of supply of this.

Kinda laughing at people freaking out about Aragorn..

But anyways, this isn't really a deal or anything. I think most of their starter decks were in the $10-$12 range so this seems to be the branding tax. You can pre-order and Amazon will drop it to the lowest price it gets to until release and you can cancel it right before if you don't like the cards or other places get it cheaper.

People have been speculating on MTG Universes Beyond line of cards which are franchises from other companies being put on Magic cards. The first real trial run of this was WH40K which sold pretty well for Hasbro. They said they went through 3 reprintings on the Commander Decks (non-foil) and still it was hard to satisfy demand.

Once they stop reprinting speculators think it'll be really difficult for Hasbro to make more or reprint the cards because of licensing issues. But probably not this starter deck since it probably won't have that many valuable cards.

I personally hate seeing all these random IP's being used for new expansions. There was a line that should not have been crossed.

Would this purchase be enough for my partner and I to play against one another. We've always been curious about the game and she loves LOTR

Yes these are two complete decks and imo starter decks are very fun since they are usually fairly simple. Ie not competitive but usually a good spring board and even a good way to get some bulk cards to build out a future deck.

Note: I'm not a competitive player and only play for fun so take my advice with a grain of salt. I usually build my decks around a gimmick/theme like an elf deck or goblin deck. I don't care how good or bad it is so long as I have fun. Though sometimes even those can be powerful like a squirrel deck could get out of hand lol
