Honestly it sounds like a good deal. Legion is a really good laptop and 950 for a 3060 is also pretty reasonable, specially considering that the new 4060 cards are only about 10% faster on average.

New models are releasing, and you will see superior pricing as etailers liquidate their inventory for new product.

This is helpful for the 5% of slickdealers here who have a micro center near them
Luckily you can have the item shipped to you from the microcenter so you don't have to walk to the store and buy it in person. Yes the HP Omen only has 300nits, but Legion 5s come in 500nits versions which seems more difficult to find now a days. If this Legion 5 was 500nits it would be a better deal.
I paid $1100 in November for this model, and I regret it because it's overkill for my personal use. I'm not really a gamer nor a power user, but the last computer I purchased is running an i5-2410, so I figured I'd get a decent processor since I keep my computers for awhile. I'm sure it's great for gaming, but the 300W brick is ridiculous. I was able to use Handbrake to convert an MKV of a movie to MP4 in under 5 minutes. My old computer took over an hour for the same task. The biggest drawback of the AMD model is that there is no Thunderbolt. But it's going to be more efficient than the 12th gen Intel equivalent, even if it lags behind in processing speed on some tests. $950 is a great deal, but make sure you need that kind of power.
Not that great of a deal, for $200 more you can have a 3070ti and 17" screen from the micro center deal. If this was 500nits would be a better deal.
The HP? That brand should be categorically dismissed until they actually make something that is anywhere close to best in category.
When I hear a jet taking off or there is a hardware problem with a computer, it's always an HP.
I will NEVER forgive them until they stop making purposefully busted computers and do what they should have done when they bought Voodoo PCs instead of driving it into the ground.

300 nits, be serious.
New 8th generation released. They can't give these older models away.
Watch as the discounts are increasing to push this old product out.
Going to grab the Intel 13th Ben CPU as soon as Costco has the new Legion. 😉
