Franchises shouldn't be allowed to opt out of advertised deals. Getting the benefits of the advertising but not offering the deal seems wrong.

My local subway operator says those deals are crushing him. Corporate doesn't care because they sell him the ingredients and basically give them away at cost leaving him just the chips and drinks for profit.

Working at KFC was my first job back when I was 16. To this day, I can't stand the smell of it, let alone eat it. However, my hub and daughter like it. So the hub picked up the special and I made stuff to go with it. I will admit that the breasts were huge. The thighs were normal size. The legs and wings looked as if they came from a pigeon, tiny little nothing pieces. Considering that an 8 piece meal here is $31.49 (not kidding), I guess since they were happy with the chicken, this might be a decent deal. BTW, it took me two days to get the stench out of my nostrils. I wonder if that happens to people that work(ed) at other fast food places.

That's only assuming they would have otherwise gotten those margins. Advertisements are always more for long-term benefit than short-term gain. People learn about the (sometimes new) location, decide that they (hopefully) like their food/value enough to go back regardless of promo, decide whether they appreciate the customer service/atmosphere, etc. Companies wouldn't invest into advertisements like these if they didn't profit from them.
