Available:About this book:
  • In Discipline is Destiny, Holiday draws on the stories of historical figures we can emulate as pillars of self-discipline, including Lou Gehrig, Queen Elizabeth II, boxer Floyd Patterson, Marcus Aurelius and writer Toni Morrison, as well as the cautionary tales of Napoleon, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Babe Ruth. Through these engaging examples, Holiday teaches readers the power of self-discipline and balance, and cautions against the perils of extravagance and hedonism.
  • At the heart of Stoicism are four simple virtues: courage, temperance, justice, and wisdom. Everything else, the Stoics believed, flows from them. Discipline is Destiny will guide readers down the path to self-mastery, upon which all the other virtues depend. Discipline is predictive. You cannot succeed without it. And if you lose it, you cannot help but bring yourself failure and unhappiness.

Highly recommended. Most chapters are a few pages long with some longer sections to cover some points in more detail. Perfect to read right before bed for a few minutes.
Content is important as well. There are a few things that get repetitive, but overall worth it. I would recommend this one, "Stillness is Key" and "The Obstacle is the Way" out his series.

Probably that goes for all of us hunting deals here, instead of working hard and don't mind buying everything at full price

I feel sorry for you. Lots of pleasure but no happiness. It has to be exhausting too.

Being thrifty or looking for a deal doesn't mean one has to be a hedonist! Seeking pleasure at times isn't evil but seeking illegitimate or immoral pleasure is.

According to this book, x-rays taken later showed Lou Gehrig had 17 broken bones in his body yet he didn't tell the doctors and kept playing baseball through all the painjust so he could keep playing baseball without ever missing a GAME in 15 years.

Sounds like a teachable moment. His mind didn't listen to his body, so it said 'screw you' and took control away him and just shut down.

Having great self discipline makes everyone else hate you.

You think you're better than us.

You make us look bad by doing what you should.

I'm never going to be good enough for you! (even if you don't complain)

It's not just a matter of picking your circles, because because it's nearly every circle, it's super rare to find someone who is also disciplined.

Is this a quote from somewhere or is this your opinion?

It doesn't actually work that way. A better message would be life is short don't make yourself suffer unnecessarily.
