got one of these off Woot! the last time and am happily adding a second one for my family room to cut down pet dander and smells.

the sensor will kick on for bad smells and you can feel free to test it alone or with your friends & family by farting directly on it and have the light change as it goes from stable blue light to panicked red.

one piece of advice is when using replacement filters it's not clear how to reset the monitor for the app - it's a small pin hole on the button panel on the right you can access with a sharp object like a sim ejector and press for 5 seconds when it's powered off but plugged in.

I bought 1 of these from Costco brand new and 2 from a Woot refurbished deal about 2-3 years ago. 2-3 years later, all three of their motors started making high pitched noises. Pretty sure it's the bearings failing.

The one I got from Costco was covered under a 2-year warranty, and they sent me a brand new replacement unit. The other 2 that were refurbished Woot units only had 1 year warranty, and the manufacturer refused to replace those.

Yeah, the filters operated very quietly when I bought them, but if you have them running 24/7, just know that after 2-3 years, the motors will start making noises.

1 extra HEPA and 4 carbon filters are $45 when not on sale, so this is essentially the same price as Costco, but Costco is brand new and this one is refurbished.

Would the Costco $99 deal be better if it includes 2 HEPA and 8 carbon filters? I'm seeing HEPA filters that are quite expensive.

Ordered one of these from Woot back in 2021. It's still going strong. The unit I received arrived in seemingly new condition. Not a blemish on it and the filters were all new and individually sealed. If I recall correctly, the product box was just plain cardboard.

Last time I checked Amazon there was several generic affordable HEPA and carbon filters for this Winix model.

Also check for rebates. ComEd IL is giving $50 per for Costco purchases of the winix.

2 True HEPA Filter + 8 Activated Carbon Filters only cost $25 shipped from Amazon and look and work exactly like the factory included filters.
Frequently on sale for a few dollars less..(currently $22.47 with S&S 10% coupon)

We leave this model on auto in the living room. We basically rarely even notice it, it runs on low most of the time. We watch tv without noticing. Although, we purchased new from Costco.

What has really set it off so far; my wife wiping down plant leaves (an infection) from the next room over with isopropyl (I think) alcohol, and goes into high mode. And from that living room, I can't smell it the isopropyl.

Also set it off, some food prep in the kitchen got a little smokey, it has gone to medium.

Bought this one two years ago, motor died during a power outage. Can't find a replace motor to fit and it cost almost the same as the refurbished. Also this is only one year warranty as the one from Costco is 2 yr. Also it has a great return policy there. So

I'm wondering if this will eventually make that hum noise. My current one has been making the noise for a while now and it's pretty annoying

We have had a few of these for almost 3 years now. A big problem people seem to have is that the wifi remote functionality may not work at all, or may fail. You can still operate it physically by pressing buttons like power, increase speed, decrease speed etc though.

From memory also, these are not as effective as other air purifiers - UNLESS left on high setting. I think Consumerreports had an article that mentioned this, for this model.

Overall, I think this is a decent deal. We don't constantly run them, but we did moreso over the COVID scare, as well as when I had to be around rooms that had floating dust of sorts from renovations or construction. It also can help clear out a stinky bathroom smell pretty reasonably quick, although I would say that most people probably couldn't be bothered to carry it into the bathroom just for that purpose lol

I have the same issue in 3 - 535's that I bought refurbished directly from Winix. I had to record a video of the noise and they sent me 3 more that eventually did the same thing. No issues ever with Coway AP-1512's that I use.
