Fascinating book. Love how the author contrasted Burnham and Holmes, two VERY different men, with VERY different talents...and yet both determined to make the most of the Worlds Fair opportunity. I'm not always into history or even historical fiction (this book MAY veer into that latter category, not sure) but I always highly recommend this book to others.
This book is sooooo good! The opening pages are honestly kinda boring but if you ride them out you'll find yourself invested in two amazing stories. 100% worth a read. Such a good book.
great book - felt like *everybody* in Chicago was reading this book about 13-15 years ago.
I was one of 'em. good read.

When I first learned of Henry H. Holmes and his building, i thought this stuff is made up, a tv show. Very bizarre.
An adaptation has been in development hell for over ten years. Has gone from movie to mini-series.
Production is supposed to finally start this spring with DiCaprio and Scorsese producing, adn Reeves in a starring role.

Yeah when that Freakonomics sequel book was on here a few weeks ago, I just got it from the Libby app (then delivered to my Kindle). I mean I like the $1.99 price, but free is better!

I haven't this one yet but my daughter said it's a good one. True story and the site of it is still standing in Chicago from what I understand. I could be wrong but I'm gonna have to check this one out soon anyway.

It isn't, it was burned down, because people were making it a tourist spot. It is now where the post office is.
It is a great book, you can see the lagoon still and MoS&I building was built for the Exposition.
Definitely should read the book.

Nope, not historical fiction. This book is one of extremely few works classified as a "non-fiction novel." It is structured in a narrative format, but everything in it is sourced, even every word spoken by a character. From a writer's perspective, I am in sheer awe of this book.
